  1. Game Party (Midway)

Don't know, air hockey and darts could be cool if done well. However, it could get padded out with lots of crappy bar games. I'll reserve judgment until there are more screens and info about the controls.
  2. The ONE Wii game to buy....

I'd go with SSX Blur. Heaps of tournaments - races, slalom, halfpipes plus freerides and lots of things to collect. It's the sort of game you can keep coming back to and you can play it for ten minutes or two hours. Mario Strikers - I'm not sure about. I bought Eledees, Mercury Meltdown and Strikers recently and have played Mario Strikers least. I'm enjoying it but not as much as other games and I don't think I'll still be playing it in a few month's time. If you aren't going online, then I'd say it's not worth it. Eledees, on the other hand is great but prob not everyone's cup of tea. I also loved Kororinpa - quirky but intuitive - but prob not one of the first games you would buy for the Wii. As someone else suggested I'd also look at The Godfather. I really fancied playing it on the Wii as the controls are supposed to work really well but I played it on Playstation 2 so couldn't really justify paying full price for it again. I've decided to wait for Scarface instead. Great game though.
  3. Eledees!

Thanks for your advice. I got all the water fountains but if I focus less on the guns I end up failing as I just get hit. The little bastards follow you round too so you are always looking over your shoulder. I definitely think the key is in getting an early power up to get rid of the guns so I just need to find them. I'll try your tactic of looking in high places. There's a random item at the start but it never seems to turn into a power up, usually just a crappy radar. Determined to beat this damned level tonight. Quick update - managed to clear level 20 on my 2nd go last night with a minute and a half to spare. Still didn't find any power-ups, but managed to grab enough eledees early on in the level so that by the end I was lifting anything and everything. Now stuck on level 21 but have only attempted it once and at least there are no sodding guns.
  4. Eledees!

Guys...I'm a bit stuck on level 20. Does anyone have any useful tips or strategies to achieving the goal of 19,000 watts in 15 minutes? It's the candy level, where you have to avoid the guns. I have worked out that you need to destroy the guns as soon as you have enough power, but I always run out of time having only collected 13-14,000 watts. The problem is that I'm wasting too much time early in the level trying to avoid the guns until I have powered up enough to get rid of them. I think that finding a temporary power up item would help as I could destory the guns earlier but I don't seem to be able to find one. I've tried the level about 6 times now and it's starting to get on my nerves ;-). Any advice is very welcome! It's a great game btw - very addictive.
  5. Mercury Meltdown Revolution

It's a lot of fun actually. I'm on the third lab out of eight (I think) and it's become quite challenging. It's been easy to progress but getting decent scores is starting to get more difficult now. The game is about mental agility as well as manual dexterity as you have to split the mercury up, change its colour and mix them in order to get through coloured barriers etc. This means you sometimes end up spending the first go on a level just figuring out what you need to do and the best strategy. It's pretty addictive in that 'I'll just play another level' kind of way.
  6. Mercury Meltdown Revolution

Mine's just been dispatched from Amazon. Really looking forward to playing it now. I've been having Kororinpa withdrawals ever since completing it and this one is supposed to be pretty damn hard.
  7. Mario Strikers Charged Football

Had this game a few days now. Won the Fire Cup straight off with all the unlockables but sounds like the other two are a lot harder. Can't wait to play online but think I'll try and finish the other cups first so I don't get trounced in every game. I don't seem to have got the hang of the power ups yet but am pretty good at passing and waving my remote to take out the opposition! I think the Wi-Fi is what will carry this game in terms of longevity. There's not an awful lot there in the single player game and I can see myself getting bored pretty quickly on my own.
  8. Mario Strikers Charged Football

Still not arrived from Amazon yet - muppets. Glad I paid extra for that 1st class postage. Guess I won't get it until Tuesday now. At least I treated myself to Eledees the other day so will have something to play.
  9. Mario Strikers Charged Football

Should be getting this game in the post today. I have all my stuff delivered to work but I'm working from home today so wish I'd got it sent here instead. Getting my other half to collect from work but then we are off to a wedding and not back until Sunday so won't get to play it until then. Bummer - glad to hear it's a cool game anyway.
  10. Mercury Meltdown Revolution

Yep, I've been wondering if it's coming out next Friday. I've got it on pre-order at Amazon but wasn't sure whether the date given was right. If Game have it on their shelves with pre-order stickers it's seeming quite likely though. Having loved Kororinpa, I'm really looking forward to this title. Getting Mario Strikers too so looking forwards to getting back into my Wii after a spell on the DS.
  11. Mario Strikers Charged Football

ONM gave Mario Strikers 91% and said the only downside was that it gets really hard later in the game. A major criticism generally seems to be that it's not that different from the Gamecube version but as I never played that it doesn't really concern me.
  12. Rockstar Table Tennis coming to the Wii?!

I really hope this is true. I love that game and it'd work so well with the remote. Will try not to get too excited though as it's probably not going to happen.
  13. Wii Release List

Shame as after enjoying Kororinpa, I'm really looking forward to Mercury Meltdown. I've pre-order with Amazon and they say 24/25 May but who knows?
  14. Saw a pre-owned Pikmin 2 in Game at the weekend for £20 so what you paid is probably about right. Wanted to buy it myself but I'm a bit skint at the moment.
  15. Bought mine on eBay last week and paid about £23.99 for it new. I bought from a seller called 'retrogameonline' and the service was excellent. The cheapest for a new Wavebird on eBay seems to be £22.50 at the moment. It's kind of annoying as a colleague got one from Amazon a few weeks back for £17.99 but it doesn't look like they are getting any more in now.
  16. I never had a Gamecube but my Wavebird controller arrived today. I'm now equipped with copies of Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Bros Melee and a memory card, so will be getting stuck in this weekend.
  17. Beautiful Katamari Wii?

Intrigued to see how it will work with the Wii controls as it's going to be very different than the double analogue stick controls on PS2. Happy to wait a bit longer for this as I'm just glad we're getting it.
  18. SSX Blur

Isn't it? When I first found out that it was 3 peaks that formed one big slope I wasn't sure I'd enjoy that as much as having completely different slopes as in SSX Tricky. However, there's still plenty of variety and it's great to be able to do one really long run just carving up the snow and getting collectables. I think that about sums it up. Thing is, gaming, like other media is evolving so it was inevitable that it would develop in new ways. I think the concept of button mashing and the regurgitating of the same old franchises was really starting to become tired and the industry was ripe for change. There will always be people who don't like change though and try to fob it off as a fad or a novelty that won't stand the test of time. They'll come round eventually though as the future of the gaming industry lies in diversifying and expanding the market. Nintendo is pushing the boundaries of gaming and I really admire a company that is willing to stick it's neck on the line for a radical new vision.
  19. SSX Blur

I agree with Lens that the ubers are much better with the remote than they ever were with the buttons. I enjoyed SSX Tricky but I could never remember any of the combinations so just ended up randomly pressing buttons and hoping for the best. The thing with the remote is that all you need to do is remember a shape and perform it accurately. It's so much more intuitive. I've been on peak 3 for a while but only just completed my first tournament because I was having so much fun just cruising down the slopes collecting all the tokens. I've got many of the ones that are in obvious places so I'm now trying out different routes and tricks to try and pick up the harder ones. I've still not managed to unlock any of the ubers after the 'heart-shaped' one - it's really hard collecting a whole set! With all the different types of events and tournaments to try - freestyle, big air, half pipe, rage, slalom, challenges, token collecting - there's enough to keep you going for months. The variety means there is something for everyone - I love the halfpipe but can't stand the slalom for instance. It's also a game that you can play for 20 minutes or a few hours and it can be as intense or chilled out as you want it to be. I can't rate this game highly enough.
  20. Wii Stock Update Thread

I clicked the link and it was still there but by the time I'd emailed my Wii-hunting friend to tell him, it'd gone.
  21. Wii Stock Update Thread

    Tesco ones now gone.
  22. So what do you all think of the God Father?

Do the add-ons really make it worthwhile buying this if you've already played it on another console? I'm tempted because the controls sound so good but I don't want to just be playing exactly the same game I played six months ago. What are the add-on missions like? I want to know if it's worth me buying or if I should just wait for Scarface, which I've never played.
  23. sd cards

ONM are offering a free 1gb SD card with new subscriptions. May be worth thinking about if you don't already subscribe. SSX Blur is lots of fun - I'd definitely recommend it.
  24. Me too - I'd love to see this game on the Wii.
  25. Dragon Blade, Katamari, Resident Evil & More

Yay for Katamari - thrilled about this and can't wait.
