  1. Has anyone contemplated spending any actual money on the game? I haven't needed to, but I wonder if I'll be tempted when I've run out of Pokeballs and a rare 'Mon appears.

It's easy to justify 79p once or twice.

I occasionally get some surveys through the Google Rewards app which gives you Play Store credit. I usually used it to download some music, but it can be used for in-app purchases so if need is high, Pokémon Go may get some of my accumulated money.

  2. Anyone online right now? Otherwise I will open up a room!

And I'm also HR1 still, so no biggie KG!

Edit: hub is 41-2231-7163-5471. Password is 4444

I don't know how long I will be online but we'll see how it goes!

  3. I played three online matches yesterday, won all of them! And made quite some goals. It's good to not suck at an online game haha, I will however in a week when the rest had more practice and I get swamped by fanatic players...

The online part reminded me a bit of Steel Diver, you get tossed randomly in a match and can pick a side. But as far as I could see you cannot create a game with friends online, which would be a big miss. Local play and download play (a bit strange for a free to download title) are supported.

It at least feels like more of an action-oriented game than the aforementioned Steel Diver, and I will probably do some quick between playing other games.

  4. Apparently in the US it is considered as a demo to the full Metroid game, while here in the EU it is standalone. But my guess is it will still be bundled. Maybe with more unlockable stuff in the full game version.

Played the tutorial and a training match, plays pretty solid! Would like a MP Hunters touch control too though. But yeah, this could be a fun online competition game! Haven't checked how the matchmaking works, but would be nice to set up a N-Europe league for it!

    Nice surprise Nintendo!

  5. Yes, was good to hunt with you guys! Thanks @Glen\-i and @Ugh first aid!

I needed to catch up since all were HR2 and I was still lingering at HR1 online. Luckily the good folks mentioned above helped me out tackling a number of quests. We did the prowler ones, and took down a R. Ludroth, Tetsu, Gypceros and Kut-Ku. The last one got slaughtered pretty badly, with all of us unleashing some rad Hunter Arts while Ku was toppled. Insta-death for the poor fellow.

Can't wait to get to the higher online quests for a bit more challenge, those hyper quests sound intriguing.

  6. The game just seems kinda cheap and rushed in places. You compare this with Unite ( both of which are kinda like greatest hits versions ) and the difference is night and day in terms of quality.

The single player usually takes a while to beat but even that seems easy and short. Lostmario seen the credits for the thing yesterday and i'm pretty much there myself.

The big bad of the game is even a pushover. Past big beasties like Lao Shan, Fatalis, Jhen, Shen Gaoren, Altreon etc. used to pose a challenge and took multiple run throughs to learn their attacks and find how you do damage. Nakarkos was defeated on the first run.

Another thing that was annoying was that from one of the hunter ranks to another there were 2 urgent quests at one point. That meant we had to do the same quests 4 times each to get everyone up to the next rank.

I'm also not a fan of the weapon leveling up system. It seems that you use more monster parts than you would have had the system been left alone. This is especially true when trying to make some of the final forms of the weapons.

For the review I was in doubt about giving this game an 8 or a 9 (if we would do half points an 8.5 would have been good). Decided to go for a 9 because of the free DLC and the amount of quests. But it was a close call.

And for the difficulty, even in MH4U I already found it easy to predict the monster behaviour. Nothing compared to learning MHTri's Barroth for example. And this is even easier, also thanks to stuff like the Arts. Although timing offensive Arts can be tricky.

Guess we have to increase the difficulty ourselves by doing naked runs!

  7. Thanks @S\.C\.G, will definitely add you if I haven't done already! And will do so for the fellow hunters. I do need to clean up my list though since I added a number of randoms in MH4U and they are carried over to MHG. But I don't know who's who. Will sort it out shortly. :)

  8. Damn you Nintendo I could be at home on this sunny day!

Don't blame Nintendo, it's not their game! But yeah, today I was in a busy city with dozens of lure enhanced Pokéstops, but I got kicked out all the time in this potential gold mine. And it was in a time that USA was not even playing much. Got a Charmander though and hatched my 10km egg into an Eevee. Which gave me enough candy to evolve it, so I decided to try the naming trick:

    So holy crap, that worked!

  9. So, I would like to hunt with you guys sometimes! I am not sure who I have and who I haven't got in my friendlist though. Is it an idea to come up with a standard room name so you can always search for that?

I saw you used N-Europe before as name, that sounds good. :D And make an N-Europe 2 when the first is full.

Oh I am not playing now btw, but will probably be on tonight.

  10. So my short experience yesterday. I walked around the neighborhood passing a number of stops to get some more Pokéballs. I saw a couple of kids on bikes who were taking over every gym in the area with their >CP800 'mon, very frustrating haha. Caught a Psyduck and some Magikarp near a little creek, and ran into some foreign students who were also playing. They chitchatted with me for a bit and another guy also joined, insane how this game brings people together.

I continued to the city center where there are a lot of stops, so stocking up some serious items. I was going to meet my gf and some friends in a bar, but had to take a small detour since I saw a Pokéstop with a lure on the market place. Sat there for some minutes catching mostly Caterpies and then continued to get a well deserved beer!

Yes, the game is rather simple and plain but maybe that is why it allures to the masses. I hope that The Pokémon Company can keep up the momentum with some added features in the future.

  11. Wow, out of the blue! Nice collector's item, and fun to hook up to an old (although not too old due to HDMI) TV or screen. The controller looks to be a 1 on 1 copy of the original so that is great. Too bad that one is not USB otherwise you could also use it for Raspberry Pi and the likes.

Shame for everyone who has bought all this on VC, since this sounds like a great deal for $2 per game including free hardware.

It's a very smart move and much more future proof than the Virtual Console.

Being picky I'd have liked to see Marble Madness and the original Probotector instead of the sequel.

Yeah Probotector 1 is much better, but I believe on the current VC also only part 2 is available so it is probably a license thing.

  12. Please... can someone give me a dummys guide to getting this on my iPhone.

    Three options:

    1) Create an Apple Id with country New Zealand

    2) Throw away iPhone and buy an Android

    3) Wait 2 or 3 days since it should release very soon

  14. Also, being that this is a 'Best of...' Monster Hunter which features areas from previous games, I take it that at least one location from Monster Hunter Tri/3 Ultimate must be in there yet... there is no swimming in this game - we've known this for a while - so did they just empty out the ocean and fill it in with dirt? ::shrug:

Essentially what I'm asking is... what has become of area 10 in the Deserted Island map? It's going to bug me until I get the game otherwise... it's the small things. :indeed:

Let me comfort you on this bugging issue. Area 10 is gone, and area 8 (the one with both shallow and deep water) is now mostly land. No swimming in MHG!

  16. Ha, I just saw 5 people aiming their smartphones in someone's garden. And I already saw multiple people walking around with their phone playing it. Like already said before, not even out officially and already it is ON!

Too bad that in my town there are not many Pokémon. Luckily at work (where also already 4 or 5 people are playing) there is more to catch. Good reason to walk for a break!
