  1. So I visited Gamescom yesterday since I could go there with my work. I only had about 3,5 hours on the floor itself, so me and some colleagues rushed past all the booths to get a general feel of the event. Huge stages from Blizzard, Square-Enix, Ubisoft and EA. Playstation focused mostly on PSVR, while Microsoft didn't let me see the XBox One X since it was invitational only.

Naturally I lingered a bit longer at the Nintendo booth! Last year Nintendo's stand was almost nonexistent so it was great to see they were there now with a big and busy stand. Unfortunately cues for the big titles such as Metroid, Mario Odyssey and FE Warriors were all 1+ hours, so I had no time to go hands-on. But I can give you some photo impressions of the booth!

Rabbids was a part of Ubisoft gigantic stand:

And on the Nintendo stand Rabbids were also present:

One-hour cue for Samus Returns. Take note Nintendo, Samus is still very popular, so hurry up with Prime 4!

Lines for Fifa on Switch as well:

  2. Yeah wish I could say good games, but they were not. I don't know why but those were some of my worst games haha. To be fair, terrible choice of weapons though, let's blame them!

Yeah, they need to open up the Switch rewards soon. If I had a WiiU, there'd be stuff to spend my coins on, but alas. I wouldn't mind getting Switch discount vouchers even, as there's stuff I'd buy from the E-shop with it.

Remember the good old days, where you could get actualy physical items from the store, even physical games occasionally. Geist for the Gamecube is still the best reward I've ever gotten.

Yup. The Zelda collection on the GameCube was another gem that the service once offered back in the day. Happy times.

I remember getting Pokémon Box, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time + Master Quest, and Mega Man Battle Network 5 as hard copy. Those were the days.

With the new system launching with Zelda Picross it got my hopes up! But it has been downhill, with them charging gold coins for 3DS themes and no Switch offers yet.

  4. For some reason didn't get to playing Salmon Run with you guys. Am definitely up for it soon but not this weekend unfortunately.

Also finally reached level 10 so I can start with Ranked. Glad I got this game in the end, loving it!

  5. Yeah I really should have checked the times better. I got up yesterday early to play but then the Fest was not on yet (so played some Salmon Run instead). Then I had to visit family/friends out of town the rest of the weekend. And I thought ah well, at least I can play some on Sunday evening. Boom! Splatfest over getting a whopping 2 snails. Better luck next time.

  6. Maybe an idea to make a dedicated Salmon Run thread for those online hookups?

I did play some Salmon Run yesterday with some randoms, fun to see some new stuff I didn't see before (fog, fireflies and that mothership). Fireflies + sniper is a terrible, terrible combination! That didn't end well for me.

Most of their games, no matter the console, are ports or have been funded by other companies. Capcom aren't really in a healthy state. They spent too much time and money chasing markets that they had no business chasing. Monster Hunter has been a life saver for them and even that isn't as strong as it used to be due to them milking the franchise dry. It will be interesting to see just what happens to the company if Monster Hunter World doesn't meet their expectations because they are betting big with that game.

Yes true on the funding and on the MH overkill. And I am really curious to see how MH: World will perform, I really doubt if they can meet their expectations there. And with SFV also not performing well I wonder how long they can hold out. Too bad, it was one of my favourite devs with series like Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Mega Man (and smaller titles like Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts).

You might want to shatter those dreams now. Capcom can't even be bothered to localise MonHun.

Well, Capcom did say that Street Fighter performed better than expected so they will ramp up their Switch game development. To be honest, I would like them to start making some fresh content for Switch instead of ports or upgrades.

  9. Thanks for the adds HoT and Smeágol! Unfortunately I was about to go offline by the time you guys came online. But I did play my first Salmon Run games with some randoms. Great fun indeed! I love the chaos, and I can see how it is even better when playing with some people who understand the strategy behind it. Although I also found myself trying to tackle a boss with a weapon that was not so appropriate.

Did you guys use the voicechat by the way? Be it discord or the app? Anybody even tried voice chatting with the app?

  10. So, my 5 cents about this game! The demo didn't convince me, but playing the game some more did! I have only briefly touched single player, and have not even been on a Salmon Run. Mostly I'm just increasing my rank (level 8 now) playing with randoms in Turf War. Now that I know the maps a bit better I can throw in much more tactics, especially climbing on top of stuff and jumping people with rollers or other nasty tricks. I can see how this can get very interesting once I start Ranked!

The 2 map rotation is a bit bad indeed, especially since sometimes you just play the same map 4 times in a row. Not being able to change your loadout is bad as well. But for the rest I am hooked, even after being warned more than once to stay off the hook. ;)

  11. So how do you guys value motion controls with the Switch compared to the Wii(U)? I have trouble with them. For Splatoon 2 it works if I play with Joy-Cons in the grip, but I'm much less accurate in handheld mode. For Breath of the Wild same, tilt puzzles are hell when in handheld mode and even in the Joy-Con grip it is a bit hit or miss. I also tried Mariokart 8 now for a bit with single Joy-Con and motion control but I was all over the place.

I thought this was going to be a insta-buy for me, but after playing the Splatfest I may wait a bit more.

I never played Splatoon before, but I love the theme, the setting and the characters. But after the Splatfest I'm a bit in doubt how much I will play the game. Controls are one thing, and it seems like another game which requires a ton of time to master and rank up. Right now I still have a lot of games which I still want to play, and I'm not sure this is the game I want to invest much time in.

I think my strategy will be wait for some time, and wait until someone who picks it up will sell it cheap second-hand (which I think will happen since a lot of people have a Switch but there are not that many 1st party games yet, so they buy everything).

Yeah okay, so I caved and ordered the game yesterday haha! Justified it to myself as one shop had it for around 50 euros so that's as good as a deal as I can get since second hand people are also paying that price.

But I still love the whole setting and just want to dive in deeper to see if I can get used to the gameplay! During Splatfest I only played with motion controls in handheld mode which is just bad. So I can try it with motion when docked or just sticks.

Also I think this will be an evergreen throughout the Switch's lifespan. So not having it just seems like a no-go. :)
