Experience doesn't matter, it seems. :p

    But then you kept 400m - I assume that doesn't mean 6*600 miles? ;)

    That's a little m! Clearly different.

It's all mixed up. Everyone would call it the 100m race, or 200m race ... 5K, 10K. But I would say 5 miles rather than 8-ish K. How long is a marathon? 26.2 miles or 42.2KM?

Seems it might be a US/UK thing? https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=9659956

Honestly, you should just quit after the first one, because the sequels aren't very good.

I don't think that's entirely true. I think the second is defo up to the standard of the first, and maybe the third too. The 4th is a bit of an odd one, and the 5th is too dark.

6th was written by someone else and is not worth reading.

Dirk Gently is then worth reading!

Not sure I'd call a service that has all the content from the two biggest franchises in the world, Marvel and Star Wars + all of Pixar, Disney, Simpsons, documentaries etc all for £6/month as 'garbage'   but I guess if you're not constantly watching stuff on it then it's not too useful in between original series.

Not really a Marvel fan but Wandavision looks interesting, seems very different to the usual superhero stuff.

I should rephrase, garbage for me. I want new stuff (original series) that's interesting to me, not just access to stuff that I've seen before.

So my 2020 went quite well, I hit my main target but missed the secondary ones I set for myself, end the year with:

    1. Run 1,000km over the course of the year - Actual: 1,168km
    2. Do a 5km run in under 20 minutes - Best: 21:25 X
    3. Do a 10km run in under 40 minutes - Best 46:40 X

This year I’m going to set the speed targets as my main and the distance as a secondary one. The distance ones are too easy just to slog out. So, this year’s running targets look something like:

    1. Do a 5km run in under 20 minutes (H1 Target)
    2. Do a 10km run in under 40 minutes (H2 Target)
    3. Run more total distance than last year

I’m also going to try and build more strength but not really sure how to set a target for that, think it will just be something like looking significantly better than I do now.

Finally, I want to try and do the bleep test that came up a while ago, will try and figure out a way to do that and report back with my score. Also maybe some sort of burpee challenge after being inspired by @Ashley.

I got close to a 20:00 5K when I was running regularly, but that was after following an intensive training programme. It really is the best way to do it. Set off on a 12 week programme with the planned 5K attempt at the very end of it. This was one of my plans:

Training Date Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Miles
    Week 1 July 25th 2016 4M 6 x 800m @5K Pace 5M 6M 5M Fartlek 7M Rest 32
    Week 2 August 1st 2016 4M 5M Fartlek 5M 6M 6M 7M Rest 33
    Week 3 August 8th 2016 4M 6 x 800m @5K Pace 4M 6M 8 x 200m Hills @5K Pace 8M Rest 32
    Week 4 August 15th 2016 4M 8 x 400m @ 5K Pace 4M 6M 5M 8M Rest 32
    Week 5 August 22nd 2016 4M 6 x 800m @5K Pace 4M 6M 7 x 500m Hills @ 5K Pace 9M Rest 33
    Week 6 August 29th 2016 4M 10 x 400m @ 5K Pace 4M 6M 6M 10M Rest 35
    Week 7 September 5th 2016 4M 8 x 800m @ 5K Pace 4M 6M 7 x 500m Hills @ 5K Pace 6M Rest 30
    Week 8 September 12th 2016 4M 6M 4M 6M 6 x 400m @Sub-5K Pace 8M Rest 33
    Week 9 September 19th 2016 4M 10 x 400m @ 5K Pace 4M 6M 10 x 200m Hills @5K Pace 7M Rest 31
    Week 10 September 26th 2016 4M 8 x 400m @Sub-5K Pace 4M 6M 6M 6M Rest 31

It looks so weird. Kinda excited to see what happens with the story. I have a month left of free Disney Plus (thanks Fortnite) so I'll be starting this on there. Disney Plus is kinda garbage now that Mandalorian has finished though, so I'll have to find other ways to finish it, if decent.

  6. I just started a re-watch of Buffy @Ashley. Currently midway through season 2. I associate you with Buffy in my mind. You still carry a torch for it?

So far, it's just amusing how 90s it is. Computers are new, the internet is new, no one has a mobile phone, and someone cracked out a pager in one episode.

  7. Queens Gambit - just watch it, it's great TV. I was slightly on edge for most of it as you often feel like something horrid is about to happen, but it's never that bad.

Bridgerton - Like a rude Pride & Prejudice. Story/costumes/scenery are great. If you do like regular period dramas (I do) it's great, but by the end it feels like the sex scenes get done to death for no other reason than gratuity.

I've been dreading the day all year but I have finally lost access to Google Play Music. I had been holding on to the vain hope that the app would still function, allowing me to just play the music I had saved on my phone, but that was not the case - the app just deleted my downloaded playlists and ceased functioning so I will have to start using YouTube Music from now on.

Not happy about it at all but at least they've patched it so that your activity on YouTube Music doesn't clog up your watch history on YouTube, who on earth thought it was ever a good idea to combine the two?

I just want an option/tab for YT Music & Uploads combined, then it'd be bearable. That was the original draw to me for google music. Kinda baffling that after all of the negative feedback they've had for this that they've not added that simple option. Typical google though, they'll probably release another alternative app in a couple of months.

Good to know it isn't just us. We have a reasonably old TV, and half of the things that go wrong I usually attribute to the TV being old and slow, but it seems like this issue is with Netflix themselves.

I mean yeah I guess I could just learn Spanish, but what if I was deaf, am I just supposed to learn how to hear again Netflix? Hmmm?!

It may be somewhat device-related as I have fewer subtitle issues with the smart TV app for Netflix, over casting it to a chromecast.

I sent my mom the priority list yesterday (nan is in third group based on age and underlying health conditions) and she was telling me my nan is sceptical. I think/hope it comes from not knowing but first of all said side effects aren't known (said they are and they're pretty standard) and then said she's worried she'll get it (I assume she means from the vaccine) so I explained some, or maybe all, don't give you a small dose unlike other vaccines. Admitted I'm less knowledgeable about that.

Hopefully her healthcare person (no idea if it's a doctor, nurse or whatever as always just referred to by name) will be able to explain and reassure her. My nan trusts her, problem is she reads the sun which I'm sure is spreading bullshit.

I did think maybe the NHS should get Ted Ed to produce one of those short animated explanation videos and air that on BBC. The press briefings are quite dry and there seems to be little effort to explain things in an understandable way. I would hope a lot of scepticism would be alleviated with simple explanations, although I know there will be a contingency that are against it in principle but I think some people are just uninformed at the moment.

I think I read somewhere that the government were planning to use trusted celebrities to promote the vaccine (and no politicians). The only name mentioned was Marcus Rashford after his recent work.

That's good, I wasn't allowed in for the birth which I was pretty upset about.

I remember that well! Had absolutely no idea what we were doing but you quickly get the hang of it, in a few weeks it will all feel totally natural.

I just kept thinking that literal idiots can raise children so surely I could.

    Congrats @bob!

Yeah Season 1 is very good. We're waiting until all the episodes of season 2 are out before we start watching those, but I'm looking forward to it.

We didn't realise season 2 wasn't fully released and we caught up yesterday. :blank:

At least it's only a week until the final ep.

  14. I bought this recently for my daughter: https://ao.com/product/fx505dthn484t-asus-laptop-gold-77152-251.aspx

With the cashback that's about as cheap as you'll get it. Only one complaint - the wifi chip is a bit weak.

I was using this website a lot: https://laptopmedia.com/top-100-best-gaming-laptop-deals-price-performance/

Even though it says gaming laptops, it's really just a list of good laptops bang for buck. Especially the ones that don't come with a separate graphics card. So if you're looking in the range of sub-600 then the best gaming laptop in that range will probably also be the best day-to-day laptop in that range.
