  1. Jet Set Radio XBLA/PSN

My only regret about giving away my original xbox is letting go of this game.
  2. Gender Neutrality

So yeah I'm the one who posted this on G+ and said she was a bit of psycho. Hey NE it's been a while how are you all doing? Now I did post a very long reply on that stream post with some of my thoughts but it got lost along the way. Now depending on where you read this news story certain different things were reported and the couple were painted in a different light. That being said when I read the article the reason that I felt off about what they were doing was not necessarily because it was what was best for the child. But because and I quote: "I wanted to make people think a little." I found it interesting how it's fine for him to dress in what is considered girlie things, but anything considered masculine is banned. he's able to dabble in things like duplo and I guess er... tellytubbies (not good on my kids shows) everything girlie apart from barbie because she's not an independent woman but Bratz are ok. However nothing that is considered to be boyish is allowed, so no action man, transformers, big rigs cars etc. How is that the best of both worlds. Is it not the world a typical girl would be in? It seems like their is a heavy bias to one side of the spectrum. Also perhaps because of her strong feminist beliefs (not saying that is a good or bad thing, I'm just someone who'll say why can't we all just get along?) I felt that the mother was pushing a way of nurturing on him for the sake of trying to make a point that I didn't quite agree with or didn't feel was fully representational of what she was trying to do. And I'm not so sure she perhaps would have carried out this experiment had she had a girl. I suppose my concern / apprehension is ok, she's done this experiment how does she propose to help her son deal with issues that may arise as environmental factors come into play. Like oh there's no difference between boys and girls, but there is a big reason why you need to go into that bathroom and your friend over there goes into that one. Hopefully next time I'll provide a better argument that just a one liner. But then again I like finding odd news and posting it up for the sake of discussion.

Gparted did give me a problems a few times. Plus when I was trying out lots of different roms (once a new one everyday, MIUI put me off getting an iPhone for life) which required different SD card EXT formats I got tired of using it so went the Virtual Machine root but then started doing it from within recovery. That 4EXT recovery seems pretty cool though. I think I'll flash an ICS build on my mum's desire once the bugs are ironed out since she's trying to steal my galaxy nexus already.

The best hand holding rooting a desire guide is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 Also go with the Runnymede AIO rom. Best in class. When I still used my desire I was running Leedroid, then Leedroid HD. A word of advice is that you will need to partition your SD card. It will involve backing up what you have on there already. I think in that guide there is a section about Gparted to partition your SD card. I think you can do this from the menu in Clockwork Mod recovery (you'll know what this is eventually) or you can use Rom Manager from the market. You'll need to format it in EXT4 and give it 1GB so 1024MB minimum.

In my eyes that is currently the best ROM for the desire. Was also interesting to see that HTC's entire marketing campaign around beats audio is just a special way of saying equaliser. Also I don't see the need for antivirus on a phone. It really just requires you to be competent. But Avast have created a rock solid all in one solution that included the smartest anti theft solution I have ever seen. If you have root you can install it as a system app so that even if someone wipes the data off your phone you still have access to it: http://www.avast.com/free-mobile-security

Personally I think the hydro gel cases work best. Silicone cases begin to warp after a while and don't fit the phone but offer lots of cushioning against a fall. Hard cases are prone to falling a part after a while especially after impact. I had one on my desire and it was done after two relatively small falls. Hydro gel cases offer the benefits of silicone cases and hard cases minus the draw backs. The ones going for £2.99 in this ebay search would be best in my opinion. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=nexus+s+hydro+gel+case+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=nexus+s+hydro+gel+case&_rdc=1

Apparently it is a novel update to remove the feature that apple won the patent case for, big whoop. It's more of a downgrade than anything else. To be honest though you're better off rooting and flashing a custom rom. I turned the desire I gave to my mum into a beats phone and it has around 700MB of space for apps. Seems like the ICS update looks exactly like the gingerbread version according to reports about the leaked rom. http://rumah-android.com/ics-4-0-3-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-leaked-with-touchwiz-included.html

Go SMS is a replacement messaging app but it does have a back up feature that backs up all your texts. If you want to take it up a level mybackup pro is great for backing up everything on your phone. Also gameloft apps are currently 69p in the market: https://market.android.com/developer?pub=Gameloft&pli=1
  9. Upgrade time

http://dealmobile.co.uk/ will find you the best deals on a particular contract. The way to fix the issue with touchwiz is to download a different launcher. Launcher pro or Go Launcher will do nicely. Or even get stock Android. ICS on the Galaxy Nexus is beautiful.
  10. The Android Thread

Only the CDMA version has the 32GB of storage which sucks. The screen on the nexus is beautitul though.

GET IT. It IS THE BEST SMARTPHONE I HAVE EVER USED!!!!!!! Seriously though I thought the phone was too big but now I've used it for a while I love it. The UI is smooth the only thing that has me a bit upset is that I hit the storage cap due to the 10p apps promotion. But meh I just needed to uninstall some. It is a great phone. I found a deal here: http://dealmobile.co.uk/phones/samsung-galaxy-nexus/contract On 3 £200 for the handset then £17 a month with 500 minutes 5000 texts and 1GB of internet. (24 months)

Just a heads up that the Transformer prime 32GB with dock is up for preorder on Dixons. You can get 5% off using the voucher code xmas5. I just preordered 2 myself.

SwiftkeyX is good but I've actually switched back to the ICS keyboard. Visually it's more appealing and I'm just a lot more comfortable using it. If my only option was the gingerbread keyboard I'd totally switch to swift but for now on ICS the ICS keyboard is where it's at.

Freddos 15p Taz 20p. And back in the day at the old school tuck shop you could get mojos for 1.
  18. The Android Thread

Nope unfortunately not. Probably the only way would be to find someone you can trust to grab them for you. I have found apps that I purchased by didn't install eventually got cancelled. (sent apps to HTC desire I still have attached to my account but not in my possession ) Which is a shame really because there have been tablet apps I've wanted but had to miss out on.

Hmm there is this really old crappy ps1 game called soul reaver. I think the opening movie would help put our situation into perspective. Hoping to get my Galaxy Nexus next week although what I've heard about changes to the file system doesn't fill me with confidence that I'll be able to migrate data that I want to keep to a new device easily.
  20. What Have You Bought?

Nothing much this time, just a forgotten preorder and a spur of the moment purchase: Haven't played it yet but hope to be able to get round to it in December. Hopefully this will be delivered next week.
  21. The Android Thread

Android 2.1 is pretty sucky. I mean you don't even have a lot of the awesomeness that 2.2 brought to the OS. As for me I'm the king of badass. I turned my old HTC desire (which is now with the mother while I'm using a crappy Galaxy apollo) is now a HTC beats audio phone. Turns out beats audio is pretty much just a fancy way of saying equaliser.
  22. Galaxy Nexus

I just ordered mine, went through quidco to get £60 cashback which means I got it plus the contract for £548.
  23. Galaxy Nexus

So close to getting this phone. Best deal I've found is 500 minutes 3000 texts £17 a month 1GB data but £200 for the handset. Total cost is about £608.

Yeah I know I haven't been to visit for a while. Anyway interesting app popped up the other day. Think Angry birds meets final fantasy? Android beam works a lot like bump just that it uses NFC instead of data networks.
