  1. You'll make more better progress once you eat a bit more and start gaining weight. Weight gain in itself will make you stronger, while the extra calories and protein will help with recovery between workouts.

I'm not sure you need a specific eating plan. I would have thought eating a bigger than usual breakfast, and adding a post workout shake/meal would be sufficient to create a calorie surplus and start making decent gains.

As you say progress will be slow, not just with your exercises but gaining weight itself actually takes more time than most people think. Some overweight people I know act like they got fat over night, they didn't.

This is why keeping a log is critical, if you can just show yourself that you managed one extra rep than last time, or have gained just a single pound a lean body mass since the last time you examined youself, then you can take heart that you are on the right track. You'll have a visual record of your progress.

I'm not sure why you might be feeling sleepy and dizzy though, I think it might be helpful for people to see your rountine.

Ok I do about 30 minutes of constant exercises per day over a period of an hour. I'll post up the details later. I create a new notepad document every day and take a break 2 a week.

ya the breakfast i'm trying to work on. I never used to have it at all in the past. i think I'm starting to show improvement. i have 2 eggs in the morning and 2 yoghurts. i would struggle to eat anymore. Do you think that's enough?

I was never in terrible shape per say. I'm just small is all.

    thanks for the help though.

suppose I should point out that I'm China as well so i'm limited at times with what i can buy.

  2. Cool. 14/28kg isn't much in the grand scheme of things but it's a start, and there's A LOT you can do with them, to work your whole body. Not to mention bodyweight excerises like push ups, pull ups, planks etc and all their variations. Also you're not limited to just Dumbbell excersises and workouts but you can probably replicate a lot of the fashionable kettlebell stuff too.

Assuming your weights are fixed then your progression is going to have to be based on increasing your reps and sets, rather than weight. For example you might start doing 3 sets of 8 for an excersise and gradually work up to 5 sets of 12 or more.

Additionally you can also progress from easier exercises to harder ones. For example you might find Bent Over Rows with 14 kg get too easy fairly soon, so you can progress to Bent Over Flies. Similarly you can go from Goblet Squats to Double Dumbbell Front Squats, Cheat Curls to Curls to Hammercurls, Romanian Deadlifts to Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts, Lunges to Overhead Reverse Lunges, etc.

Additionally you can also combine excercises when they become too easy by themselves, such as the Clean and Press, Curl to Arnold Press, and Thrusters (squat to overhead press).

    Good luck. :)

And i'm finding the 14kg ones pretty challenging. I'm not sure I'm making much progress.

I know it's takes a while. I did a week of travelling last week and it destroyed my progress i must say.

    I'm back again now however.

Anyone got an example of a good food plan for someone bulking up or where to look. Getting conflicting results from everyone.

Some are saying now is the time to eat a LOT of your favourites food to gain weight and THEN work out to form it.

    Others say otherwise.

    it's a tough one.

i get the feeling I am still eating enough. What's happening to me though is everytime I push myself, I get sleepy.

What's also going wrong is when I exercise my lower body. I tend to get dizzy vision. is this normal? I wear glasses normally. I'm ok otherwise just my vision goes wonky.

  3. It's less to do with the number of meals, more to do with the number of carlories. The guideline of 6 meals is probably to ensure people eat enough calories with the added benefit of keeping your metabolism ticking over with the regualr meals.

Ideally you should be eating a slight calorie surplus, where the increase in calories is mostly made up of an increase of protein, the typical diet you posted looks pretty good protein wise. You don't want to over do it but the same time you can't starve yourself and gain muscle either.

As far as treats and cheat meals go, anything sugary is going to be counter productive so obviously go easy with chocotale and cakes etc, though I think you can be a bit more daring with cheat meals if they're still quite protein dense, meaty junk food now and again shouldn't do too much harm to your goal as you're still keeping your protein and calories up. The more you can resist junk food the better, but you probably needn't fear the occasional burger. Cutting out sugary drinks and alcohol is good as you can make room for more beneficial calories.

Also it's important you give your body a reason to grow, working up a sweat isn't enough, you have to push yourself and progress on your exercises, writing down your workouts will really help with that as you can see what you did last time and what you have to do to improve. Consistant progression is key.

You only mention push ups. While I don't think a gym membership/barbell training is necessary, it certainly would help. More importantly though is that you work all the major muscle groups and movements, you must work your legs (running doesn't count) and back as well as your chest and arms.

If you're training on a budget see if you have a playground near by with a pull up bar, chins ups and pull ups (and paralell bar dips if you can find somewhere to do them) will complement your pushups really well. And a sandbag is a good, cheap way to add resistance to squats, lunges and step ups.

Thanks this makes a lot of sense. I've since been keeping up the usual routine. I'd have a glass of coca cola about twice a week. I'm worried about my teeth too hence why I cut coke almost entirely.

I have bought some 14kg weights here and am going to start using them tonight.

The most difficult thing is exercise in the morning. I have made some improvements that though. It's taking a little while.

generally it's been 2 weeks now and although I don't look MUCH better yet. I'm starting to feel better which is good.

  4. Watched Airplane II last night. I think I actually liked it more than the first, mainly due to the sci-fi jokes.

My favourite joke was when Shatner was making fun of a prop with lights that go back and forth which seems to have absolutely no function, as that exact prop later shows up many times in The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise. It's never actually used for a purpose, either.

Airplane II is my favourite film ever. That William Shatner scene is gold.

  5. ok hey guys. Been a while since i've posted but I think I need some advice on how to gain some muscle and look pretty and stuff.

So I've moved to China to do some teaching and have chosen this time to cut out all the negative aspects like alchohol and everything else and concentrate on getting fit.

This is what I've been doing in a day for the past week.

1: i wake up, do some push ups and work the lower abs for about 10 minutes

2: I have 2 eggs and a banana ( may not be enough in the morning?)

3: have lunch school. It's quite healthy but changes everyday and sometimes I haven't a clue what I'm eating haha

4: I bring a packed lunch of a sandwich with more egg in it

5: I get home I do some push ups and some stretches etc for about 15 minutes

6: make dinner. Always potatoes, carrots and broccoli and whatever else I have.. steak or chicken

7: I do some workout again for about 20 minutes.

8: I'd have some supper usually some sausages.

    is this enough?

I'm trying to gain weight to gain muscle. I weigh about 10 stone so I'm not trying to lose EVEN more weight.

I cut out sodas from my diet which was very tough to do and never used to have breakfests. I think in a week I've made great progress, I can already feel a small difference. My 6 pack is coming back. it's the lower part that's stopping it being fully visible yet.

A few questions. 1: is there any truth to this 6 meals a day stuff. I believe I can manage about 5.

2: Is there such thing as too much eggs for someone in my case

3: Should I be a lot of food to turn it into muscle?

4: how often can you 'treat' yourself with food is you're trying this. I would be one for the junk food but I've stopped completely in the last 7 days.

There's not much advice online for someone in my case.

    Thanks guys.

  6. I'll admit that Sunshine felt a bit better, but it was the beginning point of the linearity. Sure you could explore on the difference shines and it was in a fairly open level; but you couldn't really accidentally discover much except for those bloody blue coins. Except in a rare case or two you couldn't really accidentally get the wrong/a different shine. It may be Nintendo had never intended this originally in SM64 either, and you were only meant to get the one you selected; but even so I think it really added something to the game.

On the other hand though in Sunshine much of the Sun sprite stages were COMPLETELY different from the previous sprite. I'm not sure I would have preferred it if I was playing the exact same course 6 times over something with a twist each time. In 64 it was all generally the one area.

I would love another 64 to be honest. A lot of that is nostalgia I know because i'm not sure we'll ever get a game with that much impact again. It was the first 3d platformer I've ever played, nothing will ever shock me like that again.

actually did anyone read this article about croc originally being a super mario 64 prototype in a way?

    http://www.shacknews.com/article/80104/why-super-mario-64-owes-croc-legend-of-the-gobbos

Super Mario 64 is one of the most influential games of the 3D era, having established 3D platforming mechanics that have endured well into current generations. According to Argonaut founder Jez San, one of the creators of the original Star Fox, Mario's venture into three dimensions owes some of its identity to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, which released roughly a year later. Huh?

In an in-depth piece on the creation of Star Fox from Eurogamer, San explains that Croc started as a pitch for a 3D platform game, as part of an exclusivity arrangement with Nintendo. "We mocked up a prototype using Yoshi," he said. "It was essentially the world's first 3D platform game and was obviously a big risk - Nintendo had never let an outside company use their characters before, and weren't about to, either. This is the moment the deal fell apart."

San says the early prototype was very similar to Mario 64, and he feels Nintendo must have been influenced by it. He also claims Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto implied that himself.

"Miyamoto-san went on to make Mario 64, which had the look and feel of our Yoshi game - but with the Mario character, of course - and beat Croc to market by around a year. Miyamoto-san came up to me at a show afterwards and apologized for not doing the Yoshi game with us and thanked us for the idea to do a 3D platform game. He also said that we would make enough royalties from our existing deal to make up for it. That felt hollow to me, as I'm of the opinion that Nintendo ended our agreement without fully realizing it. They canned Star Fox 2 even though it was finished and used much of our code in Star Fox 64 without paying us a penny."

Argonaut went on to release Croc for the PlayStation, Saturn, and PC, which became its biggest financial success thanks to owning the intellectual property. San says that he's "not bitter" about the goings-on at Nintendo, but he feels that Nintendo "undervalued" the talent at the studio. "We could have done so much more," he said.

  7. After Sunshine, the logical move would be to put Mario in an ice/snow themed game. I know that I loved Ice Mario's skating, and I wouldn't mind seeing an entire game with that theme (though Donkey Kong beat him to the punch, apparently).

I think after sunshine they learned a valuable lesson about putting mario into 'themed' settings.

Mario games should always have a snow level, forest, fire etc.

Super mario sunshine was a mistake in that way.

Sunshine just had so many problems to name but what it did right it did better than any other mario game.

For instance for controls, it controls like a dream.

  8. So I rewatched Rocky IV (@Fierce_LiNk) the other day. It's literally the best action movie ever:

-Soviet Union announce that they are entering professional boxing with a former soldier named Ivan Drago.

-Apollo Creed, the most pro-America guy ever, comes out of retirement to fight him, against the wishes of like everyone. He cites the 'us against them' reason.

-Drago kills Apollo in the fight.

-Rocky agrees to effectively become a martyr; fighting Drago on Christmas day....in Russia.

-Rocky wins and gives a speech that basically ends the cold war.

What a film. It's literally like a comic book. I remember watching the film as a kid and thinking Drago was some sort of robot :p

not to mention to perfect soundtrack to accompany you in a gym..

This movie i think has 4 different montages. it's the king!

  9. yeah that's actually the more unrealistic thing, worlds best investigative journalist....fooled by some thick rimmed glasses! thats on a level with kids thinking someone actually disappears during "peek-a-boo"

Ya it's pretty much one of the better aspects of Man of Steel compared to the rest. Although I did miss Clark Kent in this one a bit.

  10. Agree with these two things. Def thought it was bad projection work at first! Then it made sense. The ending was a nice nod, but yeah utterly stupid. The whole world would have known it was him, he didn't even try to do much different with his hair. If the Daily Planet, full of journalists and reporters, didn't know then the film ends up being as retarded as them. He'd been so outed in the film, it was silly trying to pretend he'd be much else(especially when he confronts the general).

to be fair to the film, that was an improvement over Lois not knowing who he is having seen him up close, kissed him and flown with him in previous movies

  11. fuck... i liked the 3rd one, a lot :( is there something wrong with me?

No I did too, it was fun but obviously disappointing compared to the first 2.

At least it wasn't boring like salvation. it just had too many silly moments people like to pick on like Arnie wearing pick sunglasses or whatever it was.

  12. I found a lot of this a bit strange

Now I don't read comics, but I found a lot of man of steel quite strange.

1:Firstly the whole movie didn't look great to me, which was the one thing I expected Zack Zynder to get right seeing as he directed Watchmen and 300. it had a very CGI feel to it. I know that's what most of it was but ii didn't look right to me.

2:Too many wtf scenes like Superman talking about aliens with the local priest and the female captain telling everyone "I think he's hot". Did Krypton have dragons in the comic? It felt out of place.

3:Was probably too serious for its own good. It lacked comedy completely and I'm not sure this works for a superman movie. he is essentially one of the cheesiest superheroes out there.

4:Repetitive action scenes. Watch any of the superman or DC animated movies and you'll see quickly how this is done without feeling like it's 2 fight scenes too long. One of the fight scenes were entirely pointless altogether. It just made me want to watch The avengers again.

5:The lack of the superman theme and generally an unmemorable soundtrack. This is typical of Han Zimmer's work really. It's difficult to hum any of his tunes after a movie, but it still fails in comparison to john Williams previous work e.g. 'time' from Inception and any of the batman trilogy outclasses it.

    6/10 for it.

  13. Yeah, he skids more and has his floaty jump. You can get rid of this by...

finishing the game. When you beat the final boss a M block appears on each level that changes Luigi to control like Mario. Just hit it and away you go.

Thats not too bad I guess.... Nintendo are weird with their decisions sometimes. It's like they think 'options' will confuse people.

  14. tell me something here. because you are playing as Luigi, does that mean you get that floaty luigi feeling? Is there a choice to not play like this.

I'd love a tough mario game without the luigi feeling haha
