  3. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of DANA

A JRPG. Seems interesting, but with plenty of other games this Summer, I don't know if I have the time or money for it. Anyone going for it? I'd love to hear impressions.
  4. Fitness Boxing

Did I just create a thread for Fitness Boxing? Yes I did. I'm getting this. The demo is out now, so you can try it for yourself. I've gotten all the impressions I need from it, so I'll ignore the demo for now and wait for the full game. I'm not asking for much, I just want a relatively fun workout, or at least a more convenient one. I could use more exercise, and this seems to deliver. I'm getting the impression that overall it's pretty basic (in things like the presentation for example), but I don't mind, as long as I'm getting the exercise. There's a little gamification going on of course.. The game itself is a pretty basic rhythm game, where they start slow, but then introduce combos (different moves) later. This is great for people who like to exagerate their moves, like in Wii Sports Boxing, you really do have to move. Unlike Arms for example, which is a much more subtle and controlled fighter, and does very little in the way of exercise. Another part of gamification are the unlocks. You unlock various clothes for your instructor, and yes, Lin (the poster girl and default instructor) is already wearing something more revealing. Before each exercise, the camera spins around the instructor purely to show off her body clothes. Lin has an accent.. It's one of the things that comes across as a bit basic.. But maybe it's deliberate, to stay authentic. Lin is Asian after all. To be honest it's also a bit endearing. That said, this is not a game, or something that requires immersion.. I think this is a perfect example of software that should be dubbed in as many languages as possible. But language options are only English and Japanese. My biggest worry was if the songs would annoy me, but the good news is they don't. They already removed the biggest threat, the actual vocals. And your instructor keeps commenting through it. So the songs are reduced to background noice. They're really just there as a musical aid to keep your rhythm going. I suspect another advantage of this is that if you don't have enough room where you normally play your games, you can just move your Switch to a more spacious room and put it in tabletop mode. I haven't tried this myself yet, but since you don't really need much from the screen, I'm sure that would work out. So yeah. Will this give me that desired sixpack? I don't know. Time will tell. Regardless, it feels like it's a good option if you want more exercise. I'll pre-order this later, and for the first time I'll deliberately go for the digital option, as to me this is utility, and I just want it on my Switch at all times.
  5. General Movie Thread

Spider-man was fucking packed, holy shit. I've only seen the first trailer, so was unaware of most what was coming, I didn't even know who the villain would be. It takes it time to set up an actual story, unlike most super hero films. There's some actual good drama between all the action, and the facial expressions and voice acting are terrific. I'm in love with his mom haha. Then there's plenty of comedy, with a lot of it parodies of general comic and spider-man stuff. Sometimes it even feels like a satire.. They and get away with it.. Things get absurd at times, in a good way! It's also packed with fan-service, plenty of cameos. The visuals are fantastic. Every single screen is a colour explosion. Often there's so much happening you don't even know what to look at.. I think I've seen only a quarter of the film. The villain (of the week) is great. He starts of as a (funny) joke, but then becomes a proper threat. Their first fight is a great example of their quality animation too, where you don't know where t look (Portal fans will appreciate this scene). Then there are some cool twists at the end. My only gripe with the film is that it's a 2-parter, and it ends with a cliffhanger, another thing I was totally unaware of.. But if this is the warm-up, we're in for a treat with the finale. Hats off to the writers for combining the absurd with the serious in such an excellent way. This is the best Super Hero film of 2023.

More. I think this is Porta 400 for those interested. This is the city of Utrecht. One of my favs from this roll. The guy didn't want to leave unfortunately. And again, for those using Chrome, you can find them (and a few extra) here: http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~arthiele/images/pictures/analoog007/
  7. I had a good day yesterday. Swam 6 KM, walked a few, cycled.. I don't know exactly, but probably over 40KM, and had a quick bouldering session in the evening. Rooting for @Mokong today!
  8. Old NE Members

All you old people look alike. No you're mistaken. I'm 16. I'll start a Young NE Members thread where we can post our TikTok videos.
  9. Old NE Members

I saw your edit. You are getting old.

Logan's Run? What's that? Is that like the Hunger Games? I guess it has a similar theme to Hunger Games yes, a film that was released when you were 26.
  11. Volunteering

I won't hear until.. August I think. Don't sell yourself short, sounds like a good thing you're doing. I myself am increasingly realizing the importance of sports and exercise. If you're making this more accessible to more people, that's a good thing.
  12. Volunteering

I need to get to bed early today, because I actually have an early volunteering shift tomorrow! So I'm keeping this shorter than I'd otherwise have. Who's doing any volunteering? Regularly or occasionally? And what do you do? My first volunteer job (I believe) was at a local cinema (LantarenVenster in Rotterdam, if you ever visit). I've done that for many years, but it's also been a few years now since I quit. I quite miss it actually. Our job was to welcome visitors and check their tickets. It was a cool hangout. While at some point I didn't need the perk of watching films for free, as I got a cinema subscription (which got me access to other cinemas as well), it was cool to be able to go to jazz and other music concerts, as long as they weren't sold out. I saw Gregory Porter that way I believe, though occasionally I did just buy a ticket for popular concerts. I haven't had a regular volunteer job since, although I've worked at plenty of local festivals, usually music festivals, and those are lots of fun. Well usually, depends a bit on the job too. One particular festival I've had to count incoming visitors a few times.. That's boring. But I've also been a stagehand at that same festival, and that's great. Next 2 weekends I'll be working at a animation festival, which is going to be much fun. I usually just stick to local festivals because of the travel expenses, but last year I decided to make an exception for this festival, and it was a lot of fun, so this year I'm back. For next weekend I've actually arranged to spend the night there. Next weekend is in Utrecht, a very fun city (probably my favourite city next to Rotterdam actually), and the weekend after will be in Amsterdam. They have a games department where I'll also be working.. it'll be the first time I'll touch a Switch in months haha. In April I'll have another local music/art festival lined up. But I'm looking at doing some regular volunteer jobs again. I'm considering a local youth theatre, a pop podium, and some others. Currently I'm also signed up for Red Cross, however I still need to get my first aid certificate, so I'm not actively working for Red Cross right now. When I do, I'll be at festivals and other events, providing first aid when needed. There's a particular reason I've started this thread today.. and that's The Olympics. Even the Olympics have volunteers apparently, and you can apply for the 2024 Olympics in Paris since yesterday. I mean, there's a bit of an entry barrier.. it's essentially a working vacation where you don't get paid. But it looks like a fun and unique experience I don't want to miss, and something that'll be interesting on your resumé, so I've applied just now. If you're also interested, you can apply here: https://www.paris2024.org/en/volunteers/

If this were Logan's Run, they would have killed you 6 years ago.
  14. That was not the case. My priorities are changing, and I'm having computer problems again. I'm browsing n-europe on my Raspberry Pi 3B, which isn't great a great experience. so I don't spend much time behind the computer at home right now. Plus there's honestly not anything I want to add to that.
  15. Oh I still enjoyed it, I'm just not going to remember it, just like Weathering with you. I don't mind him using the same themes, as long as it's excuted well.
  16. Yup, this is exactly what I want as well. I haven't seen Children who chase lost voices, The garden of words, or The place promised in our early days, but I have seen 5cm per second (and the short Voices of a distant star), and while that was a long time ago, I remember liking it. I love to see him do another pure drama, since that would mean he has to focus on the story and the dialogue. I think a good recommendation for you, if you're looking for something in this style, would be A letter to Momo. It's a nice coming of age drama with some fantasy.
  17. I saw Suzume two weeks ago. It was a bit disappointing.. It looked spectacular, like the previous films, characters were fun, but the story was shallow, and it felt like a rehash of themes we've already seen before, romance, fantasy, a bit of time travel, just not done as well.
  18. Photography.

I would suggest posting in the bug report thread, but.. For what it's worth, images don't work for me either in Chrome, but I always assumed it's a problem on my end. In Firefox everything's fine, and the host is definitely up. Feel free to check them out manually here: http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~arthiele/images/pictures/analoog005/ http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~arthiele/images/pictures/analoog006/ I've made a selection, but I also post them on another forum and ask for advice and feedback, so I deliberately upload some bad pics as well sometimes. I'd suggest getting one, but I'm biased.

Another roll: (I don't know what cause the light stain, though I assume it's the same cause as the psychadelic picture above) Next week I'll have more.
  20. Netflix

Alice in Borderlands bored me, I didn't watch it beyond season 1 (or maybe season 2? I forgot). The episode length though.. I like it when series do this, some episodes don't need as much time, or more time, as other episodes, depending on what's happening. Just like film, it's as long as it needs to be. That's an advantage of series on streaming services, they don't need to restrct themselves to a specific duration.
  21. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (April 7th UK)

I was looking for his name but didn't see it.. Speaking of the soundtrack: https://www.iam8bit.com/collections/smb
  22. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (April 7th UK)

It's not a great film.. But it is great fan service.
  23. What Have You Bought?

Bayonetta style.. one on each wrist and ankle.
  24. General Movie Thread

My brother showed me this. I'm not a huge turles fan, but this looks cool! Reminds me a bit of Spider-man's artstyle.
