    Same here.

Must be the influx of new PS4 owners who set up their new console and not immediately turned off the ads. I don't see why it's a big deal in the first place. It's an ad, there are ads everywhere.

I think some people are surprised that an ad popped up, probably never happened before.

  2. Got spoiled by my girlfriend this year.  Half my presents were from her.

Not pictured.  PSN giftcard, crate of beer and monies.  3DS not received as gift, it was just "there"

First Christmas in quite sometime that i never received socks or deodrant sets.  And apparantly, i have a few more presents coming from her Dad.

  3. Finished a replay of Arkham Asylum, as good as ever.  I still think this is the better of the 3 (well, technically 4) Arkham games.  Close quarter combat, perfect stealth environments and a pretty decent combat system.  I remember this game blew minds of everyone as people were not expecting this to be good.

Started the Dawnguard DLC because I found the premise interesting but fuck me being a Vampire sucks. I hate playing as the "Vampire Lord" and the fact that you don't regenerate health/stamina in sunlight sucks.

As soon as I'm done with the DLC I'll look for a way to cure vampirism.

The quests and lore themselves are interesting, though. :)

I went the Dawnguard route, was enjoyable and more interesting the vampire route.

    Spoiler

You have to go to Morthal and talk to Falion.  You'll need a Black Soul Gem, but you can buy one from him.  But, if you catch Vampirism early enough a Cure Potion will suffice.

  6. Dedided to pick up Guns, Gore and Canaloni in the recent PSN sale.  Finished it today, not a bad game.  Played the sequel at EGX this year, the first is pretty good.  Basically it is exactly as the title says.  Plenty of Guns, Gore and Canaloni.  It's roughly 3 hours from start to finish, and i didn't get bored at all

  7. The facebook community page we have for the town was (and probably still is) having an argument over the snow and school closures.  I thought it was pretty funny reading some comments.

Still, was an hour late in this morning due to the snow.  Got up 6:30am, first thing i did was check the trains.  The Cross Country train services were cancelled due to the weather and the Arriva at 8.30am was running late due to the weather.  Luckily my manager was snowed in, so she at least understood why i was late.

  8. Yeah, i finished the Dawnguard DLC.  I was getting fed up with the random Vampire attacks on NPC's, luckily none were killed that were essential for quest giving.  The Dawnguard DLC was decent, a lot of fun and a good setting.  Last time i was on Skyrim, i also just finished the Mages College questline and was mostly through the Thieves Guild.  I have a week off at Christmas, so between Christmas TV and stuff i'll be playing Skyrim (luckily, Sophie is working so i'll get some uninterrupted gaming before she gets home)

  9. Bump

Just finished the main story (and the vast majority of the side-quests/stuff to do etc).  Quite pleased Ubisoft took a year off Assassin's Creed, it shows with this game that is for sure.  Story was interesting.

    Spoiler

They dip into the Caeser Assassination in the Senate, and by that you actually assassinate him (along with many others).  You also get a Assassin hub in Memphis post-game, where you can buy Legendary weapons.  Aya is a decent alterative to Bayak, but it shows when you play as her that you can't upgrade weapons with her like you can Bayak.  Story-wise, good.   The War Elephants are tough to crack on a one-one basis, but you face two at one point and it gets tougher.

Might polish off the remaining side stuff, but otherwise i'm done for now.

  10. There are elements of D2 i prefer over similar elements of D1.  PvP has it's moments, but needs sorting out to be as competitive as D1's is/was.  I'm one for Crucible playlists, and the randomness of the modes is off-putting.  The 4v4 is a good idea, however i think the 6v6 option should remain in place for those who want it.  And have separate playlists for all the modes as before.

The strikes are decent, however the raid needs improving.  The Osiris add-on needs a new raid to freshen things up.  PvP needs refreshing, strikes need refreshing.  I've got to the routine of playing D2 for the daily/weekly stuff then putting it away until the following week.

  11. Without a doubt, my Game of the Year is Horizon Zero Dawn.  A game many (including myself) didn't have much hope for, considering Guerilla Games's last PS4 outing was Killzone Shadow Fall.  Horizon blew the opinion away, i was amazed at just how good this game was when i played it.  Normally, i start a game and leave it for a bit before picking it up and playing it through.  Horizon was that one game i started and played right to the end without changing my game.

And with the additional DLC in the form of The Frozen Wilds, which came out earlier this month.  It's cemented this game as my Game of the Year for 2017.

Other notable mentions this year include

    • Sonic Mania
    • Assassin's Creed Origins
    • Breath of the Wild
    • Snake Pass
    • Little Nightmares
    • Uncharted The Lost Legacy

  12. If they offered 2 tiered PS+, it would appease many.  1 without the free game offerings, and one with.

This months offerings for December is poor.  Already have Darksiders II on the WiiU with the Humble Bundle deal, and i have zero interest in Kung Fu Panda.  And i wish they'd just stop giving away that "bonus title" That's You!!!.  If people don't have it by now, they don't want it.

  13. The number of season passes available for games is stupid.  And more so, the price of them and the content offered.  Looking at games like DriveClub and Witcher 3, both offered similar priced season passes and threw in so much content it was unreal.  Then you look at games like Arkham Knight, which offered a £40 season pass and content which was extremely poor.  In terms of games offering loot boxes and microtransactions, well them costs for producing games needs to be covered.  And as much as i really dislike the idea of them altogether (in fact, i avoid games that have this "pay to win" idea (Battlefront II)

Just looking at Battlefront II for a moment, i was watching some YouTuber's really rip into EA for doing what they are doing.  If you don't get any loot crates, to unlock Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker it's about 40 hours of gameplay, then another 40 or so to power them up.  Then they had that starcard situation, basically EA just ruined the game.  And it led to the most disliked Reddit post for quite some time (if all time).

This isn't limited to what companies like EA and Warner Bros do (and games like Destiny 2, all of which appear on Xbox, PC and PS4).  Nintendo are getting them with these Amiibo.  Locking a difficulty mode behind a £15 piece of plastic isn't a good idea, and it's one reason i'm not buying Samus Returns.

  14. Just finished Frozen WIlds.  More of what we love about Horizon, with some additional new stuff added.

    Spoiler

Fireclaws are tough and fast.  The story is interesting, it does tie in nicely with the main story and the Eclipse.  The new weapons do make the final boss on the main story easier than before.  However, the final boss in the Frozen Wilds (basically, a bear-like Fireclaw) is tough even on normal difficulty.  It's nice to see a new AI in the game, something other than GAIA.
