I don’t actually want better graphics, I just want the same graphics we have now with better performance/higher resolution.

I’d be fine with the same graphics and just better performance! :hehe: Think I may have mentioned this before, but I still consider 1080p to be more than adequate when it comes to resolution.

I’ve experienced quite a few games at 4K now and while the extra clarity is nice, in my opinion it is nowhere near worth the additional power required to process it, certainly not natively at least. Then again, I don’t use an enormous screen by today’s standards (42”) meaning 1080p content is still crisp on a 4K panel of that size, so even if I’m playing a title that my PC can easily handle at 4K I always drop the resolution down to 1080. And if I’m still using the same size display when Switch 2 arrives, I reckon I’d do the same with that too.

The thing I really want more than anything else though is some new & interesting control input/communication/screen gimmicks; or at least the return of some of the hardware innovations we lost with Switch (dual screens, stereoscopic 3D, Streetpass, IR Pointer, Active Stylus, cameras, microphones etc).  I miss the wacky hardware and interesting gameplay possibilities we used to have in the Wii/DS/3DS/Wii U eras.

Switch wasn’t completely devoid of hardware innovations.

We got HD rumble, which has been criminally underused. :hmm: Having messed about with it extensively in both LABO and Game Builder Garage I became a lot more aware of its potential, so it’s always incredibly disappointing when developers (even Nintendo themselves sometimes :o) seemingly put minimal effort into utilising the feature at all!

Err... We also got the IR camera on the right Joy-Con, which managed to be even more neglected than HD rumble. :heh:

It briefly became a bad VR headset.

The Ring-Con and leg strap? :D

Yeah ok, it would be cool if Nintendo have some new quirky tech ideas for their next console. I get the feeling they won’t though, at least not anything particularly bonkers as it’s obviously a risk, meaning they’ll probably play it safe. This time. ;)

Oh-oh! I just made a prediction about Nintendo! Watch them go and release the wackiest hardware ever now.

So I got this on the iPad as it was free when everyone was raving about it but just couldn’t get into it and would die within a few minutes. Decided to give it a go on Switch cause of the free trial, thought maybe using an actual controller may help. Well it certainly does, managed to last a lot longer and even break 10 minutes within a few tries. But damn, I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to powering up things and what to pick. Best I’ve found so far is to get the garlic power up item. Other than that I just end up running around avoiding things and just picking a new weapon.
May decide to buy it one day.

A good tip when starting out is to focus on only a few weapons and constantly upgrading those at every opportunity, rather than collecting lots of different ones and therefore having a bunch of weaker attacks.

Garlic is a great choice though, especially if you can combine it with the books that rotate around your character and the holy water. Get those 3 running simultaneously and powered up and you’ll be laughing. ;)

I fired it up yesterday and enjoyed what I played but did question just what I would get out of it. I liked that there was an in game achievement system as it would give me something to work towards should I decide to buy it. Is there even an end to the game or is it just a question of surviving as long as you can and that's it?

For most people (as has been mentioned) getting all the achievements is considered the end of the game. I have 100% completion on my Steam copy with around 50 hours playtime.

Not sure if it’s still the case, but they used to add new unlocks/achievements with each update and DLC which would lower your achievement percentage, a lot of people were complaining about that though so it might be done differently now. Personally it never bothered me much and I actually looked forward to unlocking the new ones each time, but obviously some people just want to reach the end and be done with the game.

The DLC  is much, much better than the standard campaign.

    Yep. :)

It also has a ludicrously difficult final boss battle that I thoroughly enjoyed, despite my struggle to defeat it: :D

  4. Decided to give this a whirl on Switch, seems like a very solid port.
It's crazy how different it is when you're just starting out though. The difficultly level in this game is completely inverted, it's actually a lot more challenging at the beginning than at the end. :heh:

It was noted on the puff-puff Jessica stage that apart from when you respawn it seemed only Piranha Plant could get up there to the hair platform on his own during normal play. Good camping ground, so maybe some platform or some other way to get up there.

Yep, that was actually somewhat intentional. You see Hero can also get up there if you time his jumps right and fully charge his up B.
The idea was to give him a slight advantage on that stage (similar to what I did with the R.O.B one, where R.O.B's final smash can trigger the stage collapsing :hehe:) but as you saw, Piranha Plant can also get up there, and quite a lot of characters can actually, but obviously not everyone, so yeah, it isn't particularly balanced. :heh:

It's not possible for me to add anything else to that stage though, as the weight limit has been reached, and then some.
So let's just all agree to no camping on there! :D

    :peace:

  6. Oh man, Captain Falcon on Great Smash Ball: :D

"Falcon Falcon Falcon Falcon Falcon Falcon Falcon Falcon Kick!!"

Shame I didn't realise what the plan was for that final custom stage match, an all Hero battle on Puff-Puff Jessica would've been cool. :hehe: Oh well, hope you all enjoyed that stage as much as I enjoyed making it. :)

Anyway, cheers for the games! And have fun next weekend.

I mean, that's fair. It was quite sudden.

    Indeed.

BTW, I've just remembered that I won't be able to make it for N-E Smash next Saturday, so you'll all get a well deserved break from my silly stages and pro level gameplay! :hehe:
Well... you'll get a break from my silly stages.

He’s gonna put us in a cage now, thanks @Glen-i 😂

Let’s see you flutter jump out of that! :D

I bet he won't, but now he's gonna make a completely different stage where we are in a cage!

    Thanks a lot!

    That’s a good idea!

    Thanks a lot! :heh:

OK, yep. Got it. I know what happened now, @RedShell

Smash 4 changed how Star K.O's work. Originally, even touching the blast zone above you would get you flying off into the background. Now, though, you only get Star K.O'd if some outside force pushes you there.

So what happened, is that BowserBasher inadvertently used Yoshi's very fast flutter jump to put himself above the platform, and therefore, not touching it once it hit that blast zone.

I assume that at a point, the starting platform of doom you made has to despawn, he managed to use that sudden height he got to keep from touching the platform once it got that high and drop safely down once it vanished.

Ah, I see! Thanks for the explanation.

Think I might have a solution to that then... ;)

  10. Shame about all the connection issues last night. I also had something weird happen during the very first match, the L & R buttons on my GCN controller weren’t working at all! :blank:

    12 hours ago, BowserBasher said:

However the match between me and @RedShell Jigglypuff and whoever. Loved that stage and was just laughing when I just kept pushing you into the pit.

    11 hours ago, Glen-i said:

Wow, the disrespect. Can't even remember who @RedShell played as.

    Shut up! I totally do!

    It was Sheik. :heh:

Yeah, random select really screwed me with that choice... a character that I’m terrible with, that’s also insanely fast, on a stage where there’s basically nowhere to move! I thought it was hilarious though. :D

Anyway, @BowserBasher how the hell did you manage to avoid getting launched (as Yoshi) at the start on Freakyforms stage!? :o

Looks like it’s back to the drawing board for that stage then...

  11. Great games last night! :)

My secret trap on the R.O.B stage didn't quite work out as I planned: :D

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2079492913?t=0h3m20s

That was some seriously quick thinking by @Glen-i there, nicely done.

Also, I go and add a floor to the DK stage to make it more difficult to fall off and look at this:

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2079492913?t=0h11m22s

    Evil.

    And last but not least:

    "That went well" :heh:

  12. *Starts playing the new update*
    ...
    Hmm, something sounds very familiar...
    ...No way! :o
Vampire Survivors x Donna Summer? :heh: Now there's a combo I never would've predicted! :D

Phas3r is sure to become my new weapon of choice now. :yay:

    Great update.

Came across a site with the times of the upcoming ??? races. Just tested it and it was accurate. Got a Mute City variant with a massive jump section (similar idea to the arrow jump zone in Red Canyon II) where I crashed out by failing to land on the ramps for a much-needed second jump. One floated jump dropped me plum in the gap between the ramps and the track. It's hard to take everything in on these races—need them in practise mode and ??? GPs in the rotation.

    Nice!
Finally did my first ??? race, cheers for sharing that. :)

What a seriously clumsy method Nintendo chose to enable these "secret" tracks though. :indeed:

  14. Man, I've always been terrible at avoiding final smashes, but last night was just ridiculous. That one as Goemon was especially embarrassing.

    But yeah, fun games.
    Cheers everyone!
    :peace:

I really wish we always went with a 2:30 limit, for time, stock and stamina modes. The matches feel way more intense, there's less waiting for spectators, and a big increase in the amount of Sudden Deaths too! :D And they're always fun, unless your opponent is Charizard. :heh:

Honestly, I'm baffled at how RedShell can discount all water starters when Totodile exists!

They just generally lack cuteness IMO compared to grass and fire types. And don't forget, I'm a weirdo that doesn't like to let Pokémon evolve so that they remain cute...

...and completely useless in battle.

This time around my fave is:

This combination of awful movepool, and a region that is hostile to it, cements the Chikorita line as the least popular Gen 2 starter by far.

    But cute. :heh:

what's your favourite Generation 1 starter Pokémon?

I can't draw it very well, but:

    pikan-e.png

    Surprised? :heh:

Otherwise it'd be Bulbasaur. In fact, my favourite starter is pretty much always grass type, apart from two or three times where it'd be fire instead.
The water starters are bad 100% of the time.

We were trying to figure out how we got off there. Even the second time we played it (which may have been that time) we still all tried running to the edges to get off.

There's no way off, I think... I hope. :hehe:
It actually took quite a bit of tinkering to get it to work like that though, as stage builder really wanted to spawn a player on the actual stage instead.

    5 hours ago, Glen-i said:

Eh, it was Time. Everyone dying at the start made no difference.

Wouldn't make a difference on stock either, everybody's losing one. :D Shame we didn't get a Sudden Death on that stage, let's just say it'd be pretty sudden. ;)
