  1. FlingSmash

My copy arrived today!! It's pretty good fun and I've not encountered any control issues, apart from when I went a bit too mental with the flinging (A message appears on screen when that happens, letting you know to chill out ). The game doesn't take the speed/force of your swing into account, it's all about the angle of the remote. The little display at the bottom right of the screen gives you precise visual feedback as to how you're holding the Wii Remote, it can be be very useful to check which direction you're going to fling in. It's also essential to use the A button to stop the character from time to time, this helps you set up the next shot more accurately and can also stop you from going in an undesired direction. Presentation wise this game really reminds me of The Munchables, got a very similar vibe going on anyway. It's nothing spectacular in the audio/visual department, but it does have some nice touches here and there. The black Wii Remote Plus is lovely. Not only does it look great, but the fact that it's identical in size and weight to the standard Wii Remote is awesome. It makes going back to the WM+ add-on very difficult indeed. I did briefly try FlingSmash with the old WM+ though, to test the calibration theory. It turns out that you don't need to calibrate in this game regardless of which set-up you're using, so it's a software enhancement after all. A good sign for future Motion+ games, especially Zelda. Well, to sum it up I'd say that you shouldn't be rushing out to get it unless you really need the extra remote, or you love high score style games. It looks to be very short indeed (I'm already at world 4 after less than an hour) if you're not into re-playing stages, it's unlikely to keep you busy for long.So yeah, not an essential purchase but by no means a bad game. And the Wii Remote Plus is absolutely fantastic, took it for a test drive on Wii Sports Resort too and it just feels so much nicer than the using the old set-up. Just a heads up for anyone that buys FlingSmash, the on screen cursor in this game is completely borked! I thought my nice new Wii Remote+ had a dodgy pointer at first, as it was shaking all over the place despite me keeping the remote really still. When I played the game with my old remote it was doing the same thing though, and the new remote's pointer works fine outside of FlingSmash, so it's definitely down to the game. As far as I can tell, the pointer is only used for navigating the menus anyway, so no big deal.
  2. House of the Dead: Overkill 2 (RUMOUR)

Don't worry, we'll all be there to keep you company.
  3. FlingSmash

Ah I see, yeah that makes sense.Calibrating WM+ wasn't much of a problem really, but the more streamlined the experience the better.
  4. FlingSmash

Interesting. I wonder if that's a sneaky enhancement to the Motion+ tech with Wii Remote+, or if it's just down to the game itself. Have you tried it with a standard Wii Remote & Motion+ add-on?
  5. FlingSmash

Do you still have to calibrate once before you start playing? I'm still picking this up regardless of the potential control issues. Don't trust IGN at all (their Wii Music "review" was the last straw) plus you and I have also had different opinions where controls are concerned in the past, so yeah I'll have to just try it out for myself I think. This does seem to be a great game for those that like the good old high score style game play though (which I love) so I'm anticipating that it'll have an addictive quality to it. I could also do with another remote too, and looking forward I reckon I'd much rather be playing Skyward Sword with the Wii Remote+ instead of the Wii Remote with Motion+ add-on. *waits for Nintendo to announce Zelda will also be bundled with a Wii Remote+*
  6. GoldenEye 007

What? Awesome stuff. Did you take advantage of that deal? And if not, any plans to get the game at some point? Believe man... BELIEVE!! You get to shoot people off ladders in multiplayer, that alone is worth the price of admission.
  7. GoldenEye 007

The worst thing anyone can do is to start playing this expecting it to be the same as (or worse yet, surpass) the N64 game. Was never going to happen. The original GoldenEye is a legendary game because it was developed by the perfect development team for the job, at the peak of their career, with an insane amount of creative freedom given by the film company. That's not a situation that can be easily replicated. Even though this game isn't GoldenEye as you/I/everyone remembers it, it's still an excellent game that's been made with a lot of care and attention to detail. Definitely not the cash-in that so many (myself included, initially ) were anticipating. Anyway, even if you end up not digging the single player, it's unlikely you'd feel the same way about multiplayer. Seriously, it's really good fun.
  8. House of the Dead: Overkill 2 (RUMOUR)

I wonder if we can set a record for the most uses of "fuck" in a thread. Speaking of which... If HotD: Overkill 2 is on the way, it'll have to go even more OTT with the F-Bombs if they want their world record back. It seems that Mafia II is the new record holder.
  9. GoldenEye 007

So do I (especially in multiplayer) but it's still not a good idea. Unless you like getting killed.
  10. Donkey Kong Country Returns

*Doesn't really know what's going on but follows trend anyway* And... Nobody needs to post any more now.
  11. GoldenEye 007

I agree, it would be great to see moore of the classic Bond films make the jump to video game form. They should start with this: Hold your hands up in front of your face and focus on them, it will tend to blur everything else. It's just there to add another aspect of realism. But it also encourages you to reload while taking cover, which is a good idea anyway.
  12. House of the Dead: Overkill 2 (RUMOUR)

Fuck yeah! Yeah, but considering millions of mother fuckers decided to pirate the first game rather than fucking buy it, I'm actually quite fucking surprised that a fucking sequel could be in the fucking works. Pleasantly surprised though... obviously.
  13. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Looks like it yeah. It was a Thief's Theory steal though, not Half-Inch. Well, you're bound to come across another Greygnarl grotto eventually. I'm also at the point where I need to delete treasure maps in order to pick up a new one, it's annoying because it's not always easy to remember which maps contain the good monsters/treasure. They should have included a feature that let you mark maps, or better yet add notes to them. Really I should go through all my maps to delete the crap ones, but...
  14. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

The loading screen slime thing is pretty mysterious, cool feature all the same though. I wish I could get another Metal slime on it, have seen quite a few orange but only ever 1 Metal. I managed to steal a Purple Orb yesterday, so I've upgraded my Invincible Trousers to Immortal Trousers! Have been fighting Greygnarl at least once every time I play this, in the hope of getting that rare drop from him... still no luck, but I do have an abundance of Yggdrasil leaf now though.
  15. GoldenEye 007

Just finished the single player game. I love what they did with the last stage, it looks incredible! Can't wait to re-play it all. Time to focus on multiplayer now though.
  16. GoldenEye 007

Just played through the first few missions, I have been amazed with a couple of things so far: 1. How awesome the game looks/sounds/plays. 2. How unbelievably bad I am at it! The presentation is incredible, so much attention to detail. But it's the audio aspect that is by far the most impressive. Really glad I got my surround system hooked-up again for this. It's easily the best use of Dolby Pro Logic II on Wii, absolutely mind blowing. The club level has the most amazing sound design going on, that occlusion effect (demonstrated in the vid Burny posted) is very impressive, as is the sound of bullets flying past and ricocheting around you across the rear speakers. Seriously exhilarating stuff. I definitely recommend playing this in DPLII if you can. So yeah, having a blast with it. The only problem at the moment is that I'm simply terrible at staying alive. I'm just not good at the whole stealth thing, but when the shit hits the fan and it turns into a full-on firefight I seem to be just as bad, if not worse! Hopefully its just a case of needing some more practice, I'm going to be a real easy target on multiplayer otherwise. Mike, are you getting this game?
  17. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Slime Crowns are also up for grabs, which is particularly handy for me at the moment. I also bought a moustache accessory which is pretty damn funny. I hope they bring out a full-on beard item at some point, then my custom character will be complete!
  18. GoldenEye 007

    Quality ending.
  19. Donkey Kong Country Returns

Yeah, I caught that on GoNintendo earlier on today. It would be absolutely mental if that's true.
  20. GoldenEye 007

I only watched the multiplayer one, was tempted to check out the others but managed to resist. Anyway, my copy is now on its way from GAME!
  21. Donkey Kong Country Returns

*checks out screens/vids* Whoa! Retro Studios have really done their homework on this one. It all looks great, but I'm particularly loving how the environments are being used, some seriously clever stuff going on with that. Liking how they've included some of the vibe from Jungle Beat too.
  22. GoldenEye 007

Oh no! N-Europe is under attack! Excellent vid. I recently disconnected my surround sound setup (while "spring" cleaning, still haven't put it back together ) but I'll definitely be sure to get it sorted again in time for this game. Awesome character images: http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=140818 Fun with Proximity Mines: http://proxymines.com/
  23. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Heheh... Just keep on hunting, trust me they'll show up eventually. You'll always come across them when you least expect it, so try not to anticipate anything when opening the treasure chests. You know what's more frustrating than that though? (And surely this has happened to you, and anyone that has spent some time hunting treasure) When you go to open a chest and an enemy appears right on top of it the moment you open the lid, causing a battle to start, meaning you don't see which item you just collected! That has to be the most infuriating thing in the entire game I reckon. Good advice. One thing I found out about recently (after 16 revocations ) is that the Elevating Shoes (made by alchemizing Depressing Shoes and a Lucky Pendant) give any character wearing them an EXP boost! Don't think it's a huge amount, but still a nice little extra. If I attempt any more revocations, I'm definitely going to equip a pair while levelling up.
  24. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

I think if you use a Reset Stone you can get back the lower rank version yeah, I would have done that (if it had failed ) as I already had a Supernova Sword. Not sure if you get the Orbs/Agate of evolutions back though, but I doubt it. The main thing is to boost your luck, and it certainly does effect it quite a bit. I'm constantly finding great treasure in grottos now, getting items from the legacy bosses, etc... :awesome:
