  1. The Squid Squad

The dummer’s a bit rough around the edges. They call him wild child for a reason. This youngster’s sense of rhythm is uncanny, and when it matters most, his sticks are always there to lead the way with a wicked beat barrage. He really gives his all on stage—if you look closely you might catch him weeping during a drum solo.

The bass player is the group’s oldest member. He’s one cool customer who doesn’t show much emotion, but make no mistake, he’s the backbone of this band. He’s always the first one at soundcheck, and the last one to leave the stage at the end of the encore.

The keyboardist is the group’s only girl. The melodies she weaves reveal a foundation in deep-sea squid funk that’s truly on another level.

This guy handles lead vocals and guitar in the Squid Squad, and he writes most of the music and lyrics, too. Welll, he never actually learned to read music, but he’s got a gift for rippin’ phat guitar riffs, and most importantly he’s got that rockstar charm to inspire the other members to greatness.

This group of squid punks is the Squid Squad. They’re one of Inkopolis’s hottest acts, and their tracks can be heard as background music during many of the Inkling Turf Wars. Sadly, their shows sell out instantly and they’re always being mobbed by fans, so they don’t make public appearances very often.

  4. The High Price of Smash Bros. Ryu, Roy, Lucas DLC Bundle

I haven't bought any of the DLC. To me it's too expensive. I'll wait until they're done with it all because there will be at least one more bundle added. And I'd like to see a season pass that's reasonably priced. There's just too much fluff in there as part of the bundles adding to the price that I couldn't care less about, e.g. the various Mii Fighter costumes.

  5. Nintendo Treehouse: Live with Splatoon Tower Control

Really cool cover of Splatoon's main theme tune.

Splatoon update version 1.3.0 is now available.

    [TWEET]616050839057100800[/TWEET]

Off I go to check it out.

The update is 44MB in size. You have to start the game, go to the lobby. There it'll tell you to go back to the Wii U main menu and restart. Then it'll download.

I did the update but it says the servers are down for maintenance. I'd guess they'll be back up and running at 3a.m. ready for the next switch over of stages.

It's up and running in the past few minutes.

  6. How long does it take to get used to the controls in Star Fox Zero?

A couple of days according to Miyamoto.

Miyamoto: It is hard to understand the basics, if you just try Star Fox Zero for a few minutes at like a games expo. Anyhow, if people buy the game and play it at home, after one or two days, they will reach the point where they understand how it works, how to master it - that is the moment the fun begins.

    http://n-europe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1765608&postcount=359

I'm surprised nobody picked up on it. That is shocking and another negative against the game.

  7. The ending is great, you really should finish it.

I thought you liked Shovel Knight?

I do like Shovel Knight, it's a great game. When I said familiar story, I meant I get near the end and it's a familiar story for some reason I just stop. I seem to do it quite a bit. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of my favourite games ever and I left it right before the end. I didn't want it to end.

On another note. Does anybody else have a STALKER on this site?

  8. I'm going to their London post E3 event tomorrow. Any questions?

Note there won't be anyone there to interview (usually on PR people who tow) but if you've got anything you want me to look out for in advance give me a shout.

Ask them how come they didn't announce any good games for Wii U please? And ask them, what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

  9. I don't see any reason why they couldn't let us choose. If there's a 60 hz version let us in the UK and Ireland pick it if we want. It's not like the games are shipped all around Europe. They're games sitting on a server. And for games with multiple languages with 50 hz and 60 hz versions what's the reasoning for picking 50 hz?

Edit: Australia and New Zealand should get the choice too.

  10. You're starting to sound like Charles Duell, who in 1901 apparently said; "Everything that can be invented, has been invented."

And look what's happened since then. You have no way of knowing what more powerful hardware could lead to. Just because Mario Kart 8 is very good doesn't mean we shouldn't bother increasing the power of consoles. :/

MK8 would be even better with more powerful hardware. It would let the game run multiplayer better. It could allow one player on the TV and the other on the gamepad instead of the horrid split screen.

What about multi gamepads? Never going to happen on the Wii U because despite Nintendo's lies it just wasn't very practical unless it was a stripped back game.

Some say voicechat wasn't possible in race because the Wii U was already running at full tilt. Who knows? MK8 wouldn't need to look any better but the extra horsepower could help in other ways.

Or just loading times could be improved. Yoshi's Woolly World I noticed takes 45 seconds to load just to press the A button. Splatoon is slow though I've never timed it. But it could be argued that with improved hardware that the graphics would also improve and so loading times would stay the same.

  11. Forbes have conducted an interview with Reggie. Now normally I would paste and format the whole thing but it's quite long and it's Reggie the bull$h1tter so no thanks.

What's Next For Nintendo? Reggie Fils-Aime Talks Games, Amiibo, VR and Mobile

There was one comment I was interested in that most supports the theory that the NX is a follow-up console. Let me find it now.

    Here it is.

I was a little surprised that the announcements were all games, and there wasn’t any mention of hardware. Was there a strategic decision to focus on software?

Our focus is over the current six- to nine-months. In our handheld space, we’ve just launched the new Nintendo 3DS XL. So from that standpoint, there is no new hardware coming over the next six- to nine-month period. There might be some new variants. The thing about the handheld space, consumers love new designs, new colors. And we’ll continue to offer those types of experiences. But there’s not going to be a fundamentally new piece of handheld tech coming out.

In the home console space, we’re focused on Wii U. NX is in the future. That’s something that we’ll talk about at the appropriate time. But right now, it’s all about driving our Wii U business.

  12. I'm taking my time, really chilled, haven't played much though. Still on World 1, 100% on everything so far. If it weren't for the collectathon I'd say you'd breeze through it in no time at all and if I did that I may not come back later to scour for say a rogue stamp. I don't know, maybe I would. I know with say Splatoon the single player campaign is retired to the annuls of history and I'll never play that again.

  13. Rumor: Terraria Has Been Cancelled Or Delayed For Nintendo 3DS In The US

It has been no surprise that the Minecraft-esque, indie title Terraria would be heading to Nintendo platforms — in fact, it was confirmed by the developers themselves. However, for those who follow the recent listings of the ESRB (i.e., only gaming journalism blogs), you may have noticed that the new rating Terraria is lacking one thing: the Nintendo 3DS version. In the ESRB rating (seen below), there is only mention of a Wii U and Vita (retail) version:

    terraria_esrb_rating.png

This is by no means the end of days — there was never an official release date, so this may have been the plan all along (if it is simply a tiered launch timeline).
