Awww.. Did somebody not like Wario World?
-
I've now got this funny image of Link barging in on this group like a spoilt brat claiming he's "entitled to appear in this!"
-
Wouldn't it be a foregone conclusion that Daleks would win anyway? I mean, it'd be like pitting Riolu against Meowth in a popularity contest. Yeah, I don't see the appeal of splatfest (Duhhhhh...), I'd rather have the Everybody Votes channel back.
-
I know this probably won't help, but I literally bought all 3 of my amiibos for the figurines themselves. I knew full well that Greninja would have very little unique usage, but it didn't stop me, because I really like Greninja. So my philosophy is that if you're buying amiibos purely for the content, you're buying them for the wrong reasons.
-
Oh, come on! General usage (Stuff like Hyrule Warriors) doesn't really count. I wouldn't even count Woolly World as a unique usage in Greninja's case, because it's not. My issue with it is that the Pokemon amiibo should have unique usage in those games. I'm not saying shove them into any old game, but if every Smash figurine works in a unique way except for the Pokemon ones, then there's something really wrong with how it's being handled. I know I'm battering the Mega Man amiibo horse to death at this point, but when I can get a Mega Man (A Capcom character) costume in Mario Kart 8 (A Nintendo game), but there's absolutely no chance of getting a costume based on the most famous Pokemon (Partly owned by Nintendo, but you knew all this). That's more than a bit odd, isn't it?
-
Do you honestly believe people wouldn't whine about that though? You'd be amazed how much people can complain when they have to pay for something. Basically, what he said. I'm not so confident about that... And who's "they"? I've heard no official info of this.

Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence - September PS3, PS4 & Steam
Glen-i replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in Other Consoles
Sooo.... Nobunaga got rid of his Zekrom? Because I'm thinking a gigantic electric jet dragon would be useful in times of war. Couldn't resist, sorry... -
Yes, you're completely right. It's a serious case of "lose-lose situation"
-
Unless you're a Pokemon fan. Then any functionality is a bona-fide miracle. I swear, if I had actually bought my Greninja for content, I'd feel a little bit cheated. Luckily, I bought it because I like Greninja, one of my favourite Pokemon. Plus, it's a nice figurine! That said, it says something when even the Mega Man amiibo owners are laughing at us! No-one's disputing that not all amiibos have to work with all games. But when something comes along that works with every Smash Bros figure except the Pokemon ones, you can't help but wonder why that is. (I realise that the 3rd party ones don't work with this game, but my point still stands, Pokemon is hardly 3rd party)
-
Which only begs the question of why they were left out of other games. If anything, them being actually useful in Mario Maker (I still refuse to totally believe that until I scan my Greninja amiibo myself) makes me even more irritated that they don't have any other uses outside of Smash. Why can't I have ninja frog Yoshi when I can have 8-bit ninja frog? I have a Shulk Yoshi, but no ninja frog Yoshi. How does that happen!? Surely, ninja frog would fit better in a Yoshi game than in a Mario game? I DEMAND ACTUAL ANSWERS FROM THE POKEMON COMPANY! It irritates me!

Well, opinions and all that, but not once when I was replaying this did I ever think "Oh, I remember this song, it's pretty cool!" And normally, I wouldn't mind, but when you advertise that Nobuo did your music on the boxart, it better be at least memorable. And it just failed to deliver that for me. The soundtrack is not bad, it's perfectly OK. But it's not up to the standard I expected.
-
OK, point conceded. Those are some pretty good uses for them. None that I would ever do, but I can see why others would. EDIT: I still maintain that whoever made this knows exactly what the majority of people will use it for. I also think they are banking on that.
-
Of course not all MP3 players are bad. But it's not quite the same thing really, is it? The difference here is that I find it completely unbelievable that anyone who bought an amiibo is going to use this. Which leaves only those who don't want to buy amiibos but still want the content it gets you (Which really isn't anything major as far as I'm concerned) In fact, let me test this theory. Could I ask everyone here who has an amiibo to state whether they would bother using this or not? Assuming money was no object? Because I would be firmly in the "Why bother?" camp. From what I can gather, you could store all of your amiibo data on one product. That's about all I can think of.
-
No need to repeat yourself, I did read the post at the top. And it still doesn't make it OK. I mean, the name alone gives me the impression that whoever made that knows exactly what it's gonna be used for. They'll claim otherwise, but they know. And that just rubs me up the wrong way...
-
I'm just wondering how the hell you'd pronounce that. Needs an extra "u" after the Q... Anyway, this smacks of piracy. Absolutely, positively smacks of it. Sure, you could use it to store your amiibo codes, but no-one is going to buy it for that purpose, let's face it.

You know, I still can't find "The First Story" anywhere! So I just played through The Last Story again. It was a spur of the moment thing when the game came up in the Xenoblade thread. One of the two games in the Operation Rainfall petition that America didn't actually really want, The Last Story is an Action RPG for the Wii. To be honest, this game is better than I remember it. I think it might be down to actually understanding the mechanics better this time around. More on that later. The game follows a bloke called Zael... His dream is to be a Knight. However, Zael's a mercenary, he's got a bunch of mercenary friends. So, naturally in his journey, he gets caught up in all sorts of ridiculous situations that you'd expect from an RPG. To be frank, the story is pretty "paint-by-numbers" Nothing's gonna really wow you if you've played a few RPG's. No, the real quality...ness... are in the supporting characters. Zael and typical RPG heroine, Calista are quite forgettable, but the rest of their friends are genuinely charming and likable. Special shout-out goes to hilarious drunkard Syrenne. Who develops so much better than the main characters that she really should have been the main character instead. Also, like Xenoblade, this game is full of glorious British voices which definitely helps the enjoyment. Did a bit of research, and found out most of the voice actors are from Soaps. Who knew? Anyway, visuals are good for a Wii game, nothing to write home about, but nothing really stands out either. Gameplay is where things get interesting. I guess the best way to describe combat is "Kingdom Hearts for people who think Kingdom Hearts is way too confusing" Actually, it would be easier just to show you a fight. That's pretty early on, but it's the general gist of how fighting is done. The game utilises a cover system that looks like it should belong in a third person shooter. You can hide from enemies to avoid damage, or take them by surprise when it's safe to. Zael also has a neat little trick called "Gathering" which focuses all the enemies attention on him, allowing his teammates to cast spells and such. Of course, using this at the wrong time can leave you overwhelmed, so quick thinking is absolutely neccessary. He also has a crossbow, allowing him to snipe faraway foes as well, provided you're good at aiming. Because there's no pointer controls, which is absolutely baffling, but doesn't really take away from the experience much. All of this makes for some very exciting battles without things getting too confusing. I also have to give credit to the sidequests. Which are just as well fleshed out as the main story. Each one involves loads of banter between characters that can make for some very funny moments. One particular one involves a fight against so many easy enemies that the actual characters make a game out of it to see who kills the most. You actually hear each person shouting out a number whenever they off one. It's a lovely level of detail that actually made me want to find as many sidequests as I could. Unfortunately, there are flaws. Most notably, the frame rate. I'm not much of a stickler when it comes to frame rates, but the frame rate does noticeably drop, and more than a few times at that. And I'm talking "Pokemon X/Y in 3D bad" I also have to say that the music, while perfectly serviceable, is quite forgettable, which is odd considering Nobuo Uematsu did the soundtrack. I just kinda expected something a bit better, you know? So yeah, it might not be as amazing as Xenoblade, but The Last Story is a very solid game that deserves your time if you enjoy a nice action RPG. And you probably will, because now that I've played it again. It's bound to show up on WiiU eShop in a month or so... Because Nintendo like to laugh at me as well as spy on me. Yes, I'm still bitter about Xenoblade getting released.

We can help with that. May I suggest that everyone who buys this makes a vow. If you find a creator that makes good quality levels (Not just one, at least a few), recommend that creator to the rest of us here, so we can try them. It'll help alleviate the issue of too many insane levels at least a little.

Dillon's Rolling Western 1 and 2 are definitely the kind of games that are really good, but only if it's your kind of game. If it doesn't gel with you, you're gonna absolutely hate it, but if it clicks, it is one hell of a game. Fair warning though, both games are insanely hard. Especially near the end where the odds are are so stacked against you, it looks totally hopeless. I still haven't finished the sequel! But pull off a difficult level and it's immensely satisfying. Definitely some of the tensest games I've played on this console. Also, it has some of the best character design I've seen from a Ninty game in a long time. If you don't think these guys look badass, there's something wrong with you. EDIT: Also, this scene from the sequel made me so ridiculously nervous. From 3:06 onwards, if you touch the touch screen even slightly before the visual cue, you get shot in the head. My hands were literally shaking a bit first time I did this. You know, Nintendo games! They're for kids. SECOND EDIT: Also wanna put in my good word for Crimson Shroud, very fun and stylised RPG!

UH-OH! Glen's talking about a slightly controversial game! You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse So, yeah, I finished Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time yesterday and am about to give my thoughts on it. As you probably have already guessed, I think this game is unfairly judged. More than a few people might say that it's awful and puts the series to shame. But compared to the previous M&L game, Superstar Saga, I think I might like this game a little bit more. Although it's hard to say, they're quite different. Let's talk about the story. It's a Mario & Luigi game, so obviously, it's very, very silly. Back in the distant past, the Mushroom Kingdom was attacked by alien mushrooms known as Shroobs. As luck would have it, Present day Princess Peach decides to try Prof. E.Gadd's new time machine to go to that exact point. Naturally, she goes missing. Cue Mario & Luigi going back in time to try and find her. The time travel story is nothing more than an excuse to get Mario & Luigi to team up with their younger selves. In fact, the story just doesn't make sense at all. There's more plot holes than actual time holes. Not neccessarily a bad thing, it is a comedic game after all. But one thing I have to point out is that this game might just have the most forced plot twist in videogame history, it's hilariously bad. So after the second major boss, Mario's given a drawing by someone who's lost most of his memory. Ominous... and just a little bit rubbish. If you're wondering what's behind the dirt, congratulations! You're smarter than Mario & Luigi, because they never think to try rubbing the dirt off. At least not until they're actually explicitly told to do so in the second last area! You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse Even after seeing this, they continue to collect the pieces of that very star and then are completely blindsided when it turns out the true final boss was sealed in there! That's a blunder that would embarrass Kirby! Another thing I'd like to talk about is just how bleak this game is. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse That's Toad Town. It's in complete ruin and as far as I know, the only survivors are two elderly Toads who run a shop. This is the music that plays. Audio Geez, that's a bit much, isn't it? This is meant to be a family-friendly game, right? That's the most obvious example, but dig a little deeper and you realise that until the very end of the game, Mario & Luigi are barely making a damn difference to what's happening. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse Apparently, until a giant alien Yoshi came along, snarfed them all down and transformed them into monsters, there were loads of Yoshies, now there's only six. Anyway, did you know that Luigi's Mansion happens in a place called Boo Woods? This game teaches you that. The game is still pretty funny though, with the most well known example being the L33T HAMM3R BROZ. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse Enough of the story, let's talk about the gameplay. Most of the gameplay takes place on the bottom screen, and this game doesn't really make great use of the dual screens. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse @Dcubed had so much fun watching that whenever I played this at his house. Oh, and not-very useful maps! See, when the DS actually came out, everyone was tripping over themselves to use the dual screens, but this game focuses on a different feature of the DS, the 4 face buttons. It was definitely an interesting way to go, that's for sure, but compared to later installments, it does feel a tiny bit basic now. But something I absolutely adore this game for is the Battle System. It's quite different to Superstar Saga and set the ground work for the later installments. It has far more elaborate attacks, both yours and the enemies, and decided to replace Superstar Saga's Bro Attacks for Bro Items. Instead of a button combo the player has to press to pull off an attack, the bro items require you to play a small minigame to maximise damage done. It ranges from timing mini-games, to memorisation, even to good old button mashing. It's far more interesting and rewards skill very well. There is one issue, and it's a biggie. Instead of being tied to some kind of MP meter, the bro items are actual items that you buy and find. Because of this, you can get some ridiculous setups that completely break the game. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse Those badges give you more EXP if you defeat an enemy with a Bro item. And because they are so plentiful, as soon as I got these badges (After the first major boss), I proceeded to kill every single enemy I met with bro items and I didn't even come close to running out. Because of this I made mincemeat of the game in about 12 hours and 12 minutes. And I fought every enemy I saw and got every item I could. Oh, but it gets even more broken. About half way thorugh the game, you can start buying these. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse

Rumour: MercurySteam were pitching new Metroid games
Glen-i replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
From what I remember, Lords of Shadow wasn't exactly looked favourably upon. (Never played it myself) So I'm thinking it was a good thing this didn't happen. (Assuming it's true, of course) -
I always thought The Last Story was the weakest of the 3 Rainfall games. Then again, weaker then Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower is still pretty damn great! It was fun, but it got a little bit repetitive near the end, only a little. The best thing about it was the supporting characters. The male and female leads were a bit bland, but the other characters were actually generally endearing. Syrenne's story arc actually had me holding back tears at one point. Best character in the entire game. Maybe even best in the past few years. Maybe I should play through it again... But I don't want to risk playing it, only for a WiiU VC version getting released. Damn you, Xenoblade...
