    Ah!

Yeah, I’d like to say that’s what I was trying but the truth is I was just doing my usual thing of spamming certain taunts because they amuse me. :D It’s a real problem with some of the characters, none more so than Pikachu though... “Pika Pika!”

Had actually forgotten about Fox’s special taunt

On the subject of taunting, the Bayonetta x2 fight was a lot of fun.

Yeah, you're not the only one. Palutena is a particular favourite of mine. Laughing and spinning, that's what she's best at.

You messed up my what now? :heh:

Yeah, not sure exactly what you’re referring to (I struggle to keep up with the game as it is ) but I’m sure it was as much of an accident as that Super Horn in MK. ;)

Good fun as always though. :peace:

Oh right, when you were playing as Fox on Corneria, you were using down taunt a lot. I assume you were trying to get that special taunt that gets the rest of Star Fox to chat for a bit.

You actually nailed it, but I hit you before I realised it was working and cancelled it.

It's already too late, anyway! Metroid Prime is awesome but I'm surprised at the clamour to play it now when we could have news of a Switch version in the near future..

A theoretical Switch version won't have pointer controls. It'll probably have gyro controls, but it won't be quite as accurate as Wii style pointing.

Each to their own and all that, but I'm sorry, you guys are absolutely barmy when it comes to Breath of the Wild. :heh:

If Breath of the Wild made me barmy, I'd give it less flak. That game is boring, dull and boring.

EDIT: Credit where credit is due though, it's better than Pokèmon Let's GO.

What I like most is that it's not the typical "black vs white" story, i.e. huge evil vs ultra good. It has kind of a "gray vs gray" approach. Most "antagonists" aren't entirely evil (looking at you, Venat).

You do realise that apart from the character name at the end, you can use this paragraph to talk about Bravely Default, right?

As you probably noticed, I asked @BowserBasher to add CPU's on the 3rd GP. I generally ask him to do so when there's 6 or less players to make races feel less empty. As a reminder, losing to a CPU has no negative effect on your score, The only results that are counted are the actual players. So scores are treated as if there were only 6 people.

There's also a couple of things I want to clarify about the Champion's Bonus.

    • You have to actually beat the two champions to get the bonus points. Sorry @martinist, drawing with @RedShell in GP1 gets you nothing.
    • @RedShell and I can't get bonuses for beating each other.

With that out of the way, here's the current league table.

Despite @Tales having some connection issues, his scores this week were actually higher than his average, so I kept them. @BowserBasher nailing the Champion's Bonus for GP2 saves him from going down in the table, but only barely, as he's now level with me. Because of my good performance, my entry has forced a few people down the table. @RedShell currently has the highest amount of Top 3 placements.

Xenoblade isn't turn based, so that's why I thought it doesn't count :). I loved Xenoblade (all three, haven't played Thorna), so I should then like FF, it's just the turn based combat I have to get use to.

Funnily enough, Final Fantasy 12 (Which is also coming out on Switch) plays a bit similarly to Xenoblade. At least from what I can tell, there's probably a few differences, sure.

Not entirely true. You pay base price for an incomplete game unless you buy the gold edition (Not forgetting the middle ground silver edition which honestly are pointless in my opinion) which can cost upwards of £90, some of the games you have listed do that, but even then you aren't getting the complete experience unless you buy the tiers of Special editions, Limited editions, Ultimate editions or some other named editions with cheap tat you don't want and those are entering £100+ territory. It's becoming an increasing common practice especially among the major 3rd party developers such as EA and Ubisoft to chop content out of their games so they can tempt people with more content to help shift these other editions of games. At least back in the day you paid a price and know you are getting the complete experience.

Thanks for bringing up that point. I was kinda blinded by talking microtransactions that I almost forgot about the nonsense with special editions.

I adored Mario + Rabbids and had such a great time I was fully willing to pay extra for the DLC. Was it a scam? No. Did the base game not have enough content for £40? Definitely not.

DLC isn't the same as microtransactions.

My beef is with microtransactions. Which more than a few full price retail games are using.

AAA development, as a whole, hasn't become a scam. I didn't pay more than the asking price for Spider Man, Red Dead, Detroit, AC: Syndicate, God of War. I got the base game, I put 100 hours into them (or 50 in Spider Man's case) and had a great time. Those games' RRP, with their 100 hour campaigns full of content, are the same RRP as Super Nintendo games back in the day, with their 2 hour campaign you replayed over and over.

That's a really unfair comparison. First of all, I can count on one hand the SNES games I enjoy that last 2 hours. Secondly, you know that SNES games aren't technically capable of feats like the kind you see these days.

And you bring up a point that really bugs me about perceived conception about a game's quality, that length is somehow a key factor.

For me, that's more often a bad thing. It's all well and good having a huge world to explore, but if I'm spending half of my time just running around finding the next thing to actually do, then that's boring. It's big for the sake of being big.

A good game for me is one that is condensely packed so that there's little time where nothing is happening. Because if I'm doing nothing, why even bother?

Why spend hours upon hours running around in huge games like Breath of the Wild in the hopes of finding something to do, when I can slap on something like Bayonetta 2, choose a level and have some fun in an over-the-top silly action game? Games need to get to the point and time spent going to the next objective is not the point.

A long game isn't always worth your time.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure half of the games you just listed have some form of microtransactions. You can't claim it's a minority of games that have that issue when that minority are some of the biggest games stamping around these days.

    • Thanks 1

  11. It's not very often that I agree with @Sheikah, but he's totally right. Most of the big game companies try to nickel and dime players and if you're the kind of person who can ignore stuff like microtransactions, then you're not the target audience.

@Ronnie I covered this a bit in my Pokèmon spin-off thread. Around 10 years ago, a Pokémon spin-off would consist of an idea that a third-party company comes up with. A pinball game where you smack a Pokè Ball around to try and catch Pokèmon. How about a game where you tame wild Pokémon not to help you battle, but to help you save nature from an evil corporation? Or you could explore an alternate universe where Pokémon speak the same language as yourself and features a more plot-driven adventure with more mature themes than you'd expect from the franchise.

Nowadays, you won't get games that try a spin-off that's new and experimental. Instead, you get free-to-play crap trying to get people to bite on microtransactions to make it easier to progress, with Pokémon slapped on to it. It only takes one poor sucker to drop a lot of money here to make it a worthwhile venture for the Pokémon Company. For all my shouting about the game, it's why I think Pokèmon GO sets a very worrying precedent for the series.

There's a serious problem of people getting addicted to games and spending literally thousands of pounds on stuff like loot boxes, hoping to get that thing they need to enjoy the game they're playing. Any game that has the nerve to charge for the purchase of it and then try to sell you stuff that might get what you're looking for is a giant slap in the face.

So to you and to me, gaming is relatively cheaper, but you have to realise, we are not the majority of people. The majority of people don't hunt around for the cheapest price on a game, stuff like that.

The sooner people realise how much of a scam some AAA games have become, the better. And if that means governments have to step in on this because the gaming industry won't regulate these scummy practices, then that's fine by me.

I've played Xenoblade, but I don't think that counts :D

That totally counts. Now, a turn-based JRPG...

I actually just finished FFX for the first time and while it has it's interesting ideas, I wouldn't say it was a good choice for a first Final Fantasy.

The gameplay is a remarkable shift from a traditional JRPG and those sidequests are absolutely ridiculous bull doo doo. The game expects completionists to jump through an insane amount of hoops and they suck the fun out of the game if you go for them.

If you're looking to dip your toe into Final Fantasy on your Switch, then I would recommend 7. It's far more straight-forward and a better indication of what to expect off of most JRPG's. You just gotta look past the pretty dated graphics and at times weird translation.
