I suspect not.. more they put a sword in their home console market, the switch is a very nice handheld with tv out and the ability to overclock. 3ds may end up staying as it is (more or less!) and support the main console in the same way as the gb did for many years.

Very true, the switch is probably closer to a handheld than a home console. The lines have become very blurred and I’d imagine it’s one console from here on.

  2. So far so good for us. Emery’s had a solid impact, we are on a very good run of form.

It’s now important that we pick up 4 wins before we play Liverpool and Chelsea over new year.

@dazzybee a bit quiet on here? I guess if he still visits he’d bleat on about how they are above us. Not that poch’s potless boys got ruined last Sunday.

Thinking of getting some tickets to one of Cardiff City's home matches, but I've never been to a game before. How do I got about buying tickets and is there such a thing as neutral tickets or do you need to pick a team to support?

Fulham use to have a neutral area.

If you get tickets in the Cardiff end I wouldn’t reccomend celebrating an away goal.

I agree (and hope!) they will have some tricky years ahead due to the stadium. It is a massive outlay that will effect their ability to invest in their squad. However, while their stadium is more expensive than ours was, the amount of money in football has changed since we got the Emirates. Say they end up selling Kane/Alli. That's at least 70m/100m+ each in today's market sadly, which can help reinvest in the squad/pay off debt. We got £16m for Henry, a world class striker at the time (even if you could argue he was slightly past his prime, and Arsenal are shite at doing deals.)

I think it's key to their future how they fare this season. They need to stay in the Champions League spots. And how long Pochettino sticks around for while money is tight. I can see his head being turned by a big club sooner or later.

The Henry deal was a proper stinker. The only saving grace is that it was £16M all up front. Barcelona are notorious for paying off in instalments. Pretty sure they were still paying us for Cesc when they sold him to Chelsea.

It's definitely the reason they haven't signed any players this summer, Arsenal weren't quite as frugal after they built the Emirates but they definitely didn't spend very much until recently because of the strength of their investment.

It's sort of good in a way, it shows that they're not stretching themselves to breaking point and it gives the youth players a chance to break into the first team but obviously it's worrying for fans to not see any new investment in the squad. I don't think Spurs have paid for as large a portion of the new White Hart Lane as Arsenal did for the Emirates but you'd think even for one of the top Premier League clubs in this day and age even a small share of a £1bn+ stadium is a big outlay so it will take surely take them a few years to be able to reinvest.

The Emirates cost us £330m and was built on time. We financed a large chunk of that up front with Fly Emirates and Nike signing new sponsorship deals and paying the whole term up front. Tottenham  don’t appear to have done the same. They’ll struggle for a few seasons I think.

Spurs finding out that new stadiums are hard work.

    1. Delayed -rumours suggesting it won’t be ready until October.

    2. Over budget (apparently £1bn!!)

    3. Failed to secure naming rights (huge fuck up)

    4. Clearly affecting funds for players.

If they have a poor season and don’t make the Champions League they could face an exodus next summer.

Looks like point 1 has just been confirmed.

    ———

As for our result, some what expected. Man City are a different level to us, it’ll take a number of years for Emery to turn us into a £1bn force like Pep’s team.

I liked what I saw and I hope we can get something from our next game at stamford bridge.

I feel like it’s an understated attempt to get Madrid off our backs. I doubt that we’ll end up selling both Willian and Hazard in the same window, because that would leave us severely undermanned on the wings, so I do think that Barça going after Willian (who would be much cheaper than Hazard), while serving to strengthen their team in that position, could also be an attempt to ensure that we don’t sell Hazard to Madrid.

As for the obscene amounts going for everyone in the Prem these days, I think it’s only unsustainable to spend in such a way for those likely to be relegated and not bounce straight back (i.e. don’t spend all of your parachute money, recently relegated teams). For the top 12 or so who are confident of staying up, now is the time to spend, as there’s a lot of money in the TV rights for the Prem going around, and that’s only increasing every single time that the rights go to auction.

The problem, of course, is that we’re seeing this effect football fans the most: an increase in value of TV rights bids will see a further increase in the money spent by clubs on players, which means that tickets/TV packages will only go up in price for fans, etc. It’s just becoming a bit of a mess, to be honest.

Not forgetting the Premier League thinks it’s a great idea to split packages. Soon we’ll have Sky, BT and Amazon with live games. So three subscriptions is better for the consumer? And they wonder why illegal streams are so popular...

The ticket debate is difficult because I feel the premier league is finally doing something about that with the away ticket cap. But it’s still not enough.

Tv fixture times and train companies are bigger issue for away fans now.

As much as we need a new keeper i'm not really happy with the purchase. £68 million is an insane amount for a keeper who hasn't proven himself in the PL and I think this comes across as a very expensive panic buy. I'd honestly would have preferred if we had made a move for Kasper. He's been a very solid keeper for Leicester and I imagine we could have got him for a hell of a lot less that £68 million. Although I don't think his dad would be happy with a move to Liverpool. :D

It baffles me why we didn't go in for Pickford when Sunderland got rid of him. You could see the potential that the lad had when he played for them and it annoyed me that we didn't go after him, especially as we've had keeper issues for a few seasons now. I think part of the problem was Klopp didn't want to admit he had made a mistake in bringing Karius to the club but now he's finally had to hold his hands up and show that it really was a bad move.

Exactly this. £68M on an unproven entity is a huge gamble. And I can’t imagine too much of the Countinho money will be kicking around afterwards. As we all know Barcelona never pay up all the cash right away.

Liverpool all set to complete the signing of Alisson subject to a medical for £68 million. That's almost all the Coutinho money spent now on areas they needed to strengthen. Liverpool looking most likely to challenge Man City this season.

Can’t help but feel Roma are having their pants down. Hasn’t he only been their number 1 for a single season?

  11. You’ll never have a Ferguson or Wenger era. You’ll never love a manager like the Scousers love Klopp. It comes from the top, Abramovich doesn’t care about managers and it feeds down.

I look forward to Sarri getting the boot when it all goes wrong.

    Bring on the new season.

Sarri has officially signed as Chelsea manager on a three-year contract. Just a little under four weeks until the end of the transfer window and the start of the Premier League season, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes in/goes out in that time, and how much of his footballing philosophy that the team can absorb in such a limited time.

He’s just as brash as Conte, and is a chain smoker. Should make for some fun press conferences...

To be clear, I’m not arguing that it’s right to treat Conte in such a way (regardless of the success that he brought in two seasons with two trophies), nor any other manager. I’m not giving my team a pass for how we’ve treated our managers in the past or in the present. But how the club officially treats a member of staff has little to do with the fans’ appreciation of them, so I’m struggling to see what you’re getting at, because you’re going to struggle to find many teams at the top of Europe (or aiming to be there or thereabouts) with undeniable and unreserved respect for their manager or their players. Real Madrid’s treatment of Ancelotti a few years ago comes to mind, as does their treatment of legends such as Casillas and Raul.

I don’t bring up these examples to say that what we’re doing is okay — I’d much rather Conte be treated with the respect he deserves for establish a three-man defence as something more typical in the English game, and I doubt we would have seen Southgate employ a 3-5-2 at this World Cup had Conte not managed here — but it is a part of the game these days which is becoming increasingly common. I hope you call out other teams for this and not just Chelsea, and I doubt Conte is nearly as bothered as you seem to be — he looks like he’ll be pocketing £9 million from this when it’s all said and done.

I’m not bothered by Conte or his feelings I’m calling Chelsea out for what they are, unprofessional.

When other clubs consistently act with such lack of class I’ll be sure to make sure you are notified.

If you feel that is the way to treat an employee, then I wouldn’t work for you. Let’s not forget Conte won Chelsea the league title. He deserved not to be mugged off this summer, when everyone and their dog knew he’d be going in May.

Eh, Sarri’s been on the way since April. The bigger news now is that Jorginho is reportedly coming along with him. We might finally get to see us play the beautiful brand of football that Abramovich has been after ever since Guardiola burst onto the scene a decade ago.

On the Conte ordeal (who I personally think is an excellent manager, but let the club’s shortcomings in the transfer market get to him in the same way that it did towards the end of his tenure at Juventus), and I suppose this is for @Ramar (thanks for the unnecessary jibes, but they seem quite childish): I do think that it’s worth pointing out that holding onto him for this long had made sense both financially and from a sporting perspective. We expected other clubs to be lining up for him, which would have made an impact on whether or not we were the ones paying out his compensation fee for an early termination of his contract, or whether another club would be footing up the bill.

In addition, Napoli have been playing hardball (perhaps even more so than ourselves on this occasion) — currently, Ancelotti is their manager, yet Sarri has not had his contract terminated at this moment in time. Holding on to Conte in the event that we didn’t land Sarri was always going to be the safest way to do things, and you’ll find that this is exactly the same way it happens elsewhere (though, obviously, in a much shorter window — but again, we have Napoli and Abramovich’s visa situation to thank for that).

It’s a rather circular arrangement: we were waiting for someone to land Conte and pay his compensation so that we weren’t paying out of turn to pay Sarri’s compensation, as Napoli do not want to see pay his compensation fee (as we can tell by his contract not yet being terminated).

Whilst you may find the way I express my opinion childish. You can’t deny the Chelsea manager merry go round is classless and unprofessional. You haven’t treated a single manager well in over 20 years!

    My case in point

So Chelsea have sacked Conte. They were nice enough to leave him waiting since May and even let him do pre-season training this week. Sarri looks to be on the way.

Absolute mugs club. Always been an unprofessional and classless outfit.

  15. We had a great tournament. Who thought we’d make the semi finals with this squad? Blame who you want, blame what you want. End of the day we lost to the better team on the day. Proud of what the lads achieved and I’ve enjoyed every moment of this World Cup. Fair play Gareth Southgate for getting millions back  onside and for exorcising the personal demons of 1996.

Euro 2020 semis and final are at Wembley, let’s hope we can make it that far again.
