  1. Wii U General Discussion

It's profoundly disappointing but inevitable given the anaemic release schedule. All thats left is to compare the Wii U's seemingly perpetual software drought with the many previous Nintendo software droughts. Riveting stuff.
  2. Reasons to buy a Wii U?

Totally disagree. If you share a TV with a partner and/or kids it's a godsend. YMMV but you can't dismiss it.
  3. Wii U General Discussion

Exclusives are a big deal to gamers who are likely to want all hardware and need a differentiator. They will become significant to people who purchase a second console at some point. However, most people buying a console want to be able to play COD, FIFA/Madden, GTA, AC and Batman. This Christmas Destiny, Battlefield and Far Cry 4 will be a big deal. Those people won't be buying a Wii U. They may look at the XB1 and PS4 exclusives to decide which one of them to go for but that's it.
  4. Nintendo Digital Event E3 2014: BYOP

If you're going to do that you need to cross Wind Waker HD and X off the 2013 list. Let's all play fair now : peace: Plus, at E3 2013 there was plenty of disappointment around SM3D and DKC

FIFA 15? Say what? It was really good. The only slight criticism was I think they'd have been better off extending it by 15 minutes to include Art Academy, Mario and Donkey Kong, Devils Third, Mario Party 10, Wii Sports Club, Pullbloxx World and finishing off with a glimpse of Starfox. Really give that 'avalanche of games' vibe. It's a minor criticism though. I can see others copying elements of how Nintendo have gone about E3 this year Now why would anyone want to do that? ;-)
  6. Wii U General Discussion

That's how it works though. It's down to the platform holder to sell the machine because third-parties then give the platform holder a cut of their sales. Also to be fair to Ubi they did gamble on a Wii u exclusive at launch and lost money on it. I think Nintendo have had a great show. The other two were decent showings (Sunset Overdrive and No Mans sky especially) but not enough to sell me either machine where we've had 10 or so new games shown for Wii U. Mario Maker, Toads Treasure Tracker, Splattoon, Devils third, Bayonetta 1, Mario Party 10, Mario and Donkey Kong, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Art Academy, Starfox, Zelda, the two Miyamoto oddities is a long list of reveals especially as it was aligned to updates on other previously announced projects. 2014 could have done with something else to fill the release schedules but apart from that I was very impressed.
  7. Release Dates 2014 thread

Hyrule Warriors is September 19 according to the video yesterday I'm not allowed to post URLs yet but go to nintendo co uk/Games/E3/Nintendo-E3-2014-891073.html#videos You don't even have to load the video, it's the fourth one from the left under 'Digital Event Video' and it says the date in the blurb there
  8. Nintendo Digital Event E3 2014: BYOP

Very good show IMHO. It's a shame so much of it is 2015 but that was true of MS and Sony too (and at least it was actual game footage rather than CGI all over the shop). So far we've had, what, 10 Wii U games we hadn't seen before, a couple we've seen a lot more of and a couple of demos? Above and beyond most expectations I reckon, at least quantity wise. It was also presented well and with humour. Bayo 2 having the original bundled is a great idea. X looks superb. Hyrule Warriors looks better than I originally thought. The Toad game looks great, I really liked his levels in 3D World. The Yoshi game is very pretty and Kirby looks good though probably could have been in 3DS. Mario Maker wasn't a surprise but looks nicely realised. Very good all round
  9. Agreed. Like reading a book, I can always act it out better in my head anyway
  10. Wii U General Discussion

I sometimes wonder exactly that yes. If it isn't a deliberate policy then they're utterly dreadful at achieving it. And as others have said there is literally no reason why they can't add Western developers and diversify while keeping on doing what they do in Japan. So the software is tied to the NNID and the NNID is tied to the hardware, which means........the software is tied to the hardware. You're splitting hairs there, the end result is the same. My PS3 and Wii got stolen. I re-bought a PS3, logged in, downloaded all my old games. That obviously didn't happen with the Wii and Nintendo couldn't have been less interested. If the same thing happened with my 3DS or Wii U, I lose the software. If my Ipad gets lost or stolen, all my ebooks/music are there for me to simply access on another device. Nintendo still can't do this. It's 2014. It simply isn't good enough.
  11. Wii U General Discussion

I really hope there isn't loads of Gamepad heavy stuff. The reason my Wii U gets used so much but I sold my copy of Lego City is my reliance on Off TV Play.
  12. Wii U General Discussion

Until software is tied to the NNID and not the hardware, no, it isn't. They get the acknowledgement when it's done. If I say now that I'm going to climb Everest do you congratulate me now or after I've done it?
  13. Wii U General Discussion

The Account System continues to be a joke. I'm not sure whether it's indolence or arrogance or both that causes them to refuse to fix it but it's not on. It must be costing them money too, I can't be the only one who boycotts/severely restricts the use of their digital products under the present system. But they either don't know it's important or don't care.
  14. Wii U General Discussion

I agreed the whole thing has been massively confused. The console doesn't drag (for want of a better word) 'core' gamers in because of its relative lack of power and inadequate online capability. The Gamepad doesn't appeal to casuals because of all the buttons. Who were they aiming it at? They'd have been better off filling that barren first year with quick and easy HD ports of games like Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, Pandoras tower, The Last Story, Sin and Punishment 2. The Wii games that might be interesting to PS3/360 owners put off by SD Graphics and waggle.
  15. Wii U General Discussion

Nintendo keep mentioning this Tesco deal. So I was in my local Tesco today and picked up their Christmas gift catalogue....not one mention of Wii U, but heart-warmingly XBox 1 is in their 'Top 10 gifts' at the front. Good deal.
