  1. EA loses Bond to Activision!!

Activision have some good FPS developers who they could farm the chise out to such as Infinity Ward (Call of Duty), ID Software (Doom) and Raven (Star Trek: Elite Force) - Personally I wouldn't hand it over to ID, they are excellent developers but their FPS games are pretty shallow experiences, just out and out blasters and i'd rather not see bond games like that. Raven have proven that they can handle film licenses well before with Star Trek: Elite Force and Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2 and as a consequence they'd probably be my choice although Infinity Ward know how to make a game with a great atmosphere. Either way they can't be any worse than EA's efforts and hopefully we'll see a few good bond games pop up on Wii.
  2. Exactly, if you take Mario Tennis - The actual tennis mechanics (lets forget the daft power-ups in Power Tennis) are as good as any other tennis game out there. They may not have the realistic physics that alternative tennis games have but they're damn good arcade fun. That gameplay with a realistic character gloss over it would appeal to everyone and at the same time not destroy Mario, they've also made excellent golf games using Mario that could withstand the same kind of conversion. The main problem for me with Nintendo's sports games is that they lack a memorable cast - Consistent, interesting characters that appear in the bulk of Nintendo's sports titles would be fantastic and could help develop a fantastic Nintendo sports series. Nintendo had one with the NES and the GB and it worked really well, simple and fun sports games without using real licenses that were great fun to play - Mario used to appear in most of them as a referee but the games were never Mario games and it helped stop Mario becoming overused. This is what I'd like to see happen with Mario and its related franchises Mario Platformers - Remain as they are, top class platformers that happen once or twice within a systems lifespan and are developed with as much thought and care as other franchises. Paper Mario/Mario RPG - Remain as it is, new stories and new attack moves using the fhc to keep things fresh. Mario Tennis/Golf/Whatever - Become part of a Nintendo sports series, out and out sports games that don't involve Mario but keep the same fun gameplay. Wario - Forget making Wario into a platforming hero, whilst another 2D platformer on a handheld would be great I'd prefer to see him focussed on Wario Ware games. Luigi/Peach/Waluigi spin offs - The odd spin off is all well and good but I'd rather see them involved in actual Mario games as part of the story rather than having sequels to their games made although fresh ideas using their charactesr would always be welcome. Mario Party - This has got very old and whilst the FHC has great potential I think they should drop the series and replace it with 'Smash Party', a similar kind of game but more fun with the FHC to keep things intersting and instead of just Mario involve a bigger Nintendo cast (Ala Smash Bros) I think those'd be great steps for those franchises to broaden their appeal and at te same time not destroy Mario's appeal. I'm undecided over whether I'd like to see Mario Kart adopt the 'Smash' idea or just remain Mario Kart.
  3. It make sense really, this way they can ensure that there are absolutely no shortages at launch and that they can get the system out the minute all the software is ready. I think we could see it in September over in Japan/The US - I'm still anticipating an October release here though.
  4. Ludicrous pic of first wii screenshot

The graphics are nothing special, they just look like an average mid generation PS2 game. They're not awful by any stretch of the imagination but they are disappointing, can't say I care about the Rayman series anyway and I think Ancel is the most over-rated games designer known to man so I frankly couldn't care less. Still, the more games for Wii the better and Rayman is a franchise which traditionally sells fairly well.
  5. Frankly I think if Nintendo want Mario to take a backseat then they should stop using him in a ridiculous amount of games - Mario Kart/Paper Mario/Mario Platformers are one thing but attaching his name to every sports game under the sun and making endless Mario party games is unnecessary. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him dropped and Nintendo making realistic sports games. They could make a pretty awesome sports series - 1080, Wave Race, Excitbike, Punchout, Tennis, Golf etc. and use the same, realistic characters in each game and have it as part of a Nintendo sports series. It would certainly broaden the appeal to thoe who couldn't care less about Mario.
  6. Mozlapunk speculates

True but in what way will it be the mushroom kingdom? Will the Wii project a giant mushroom kingdom that fills the room or will it simply mean members of the crowd have to wear Mario/Goomba masks. I agree though, it is rather strange.
  7. Mozlapunk speculates

Nintendo have stated time and time again that they want to attract the kind of people who are normally scared off games with the Wii, a visor would clearly not do that, nor would having to wear 3D glasses. Some kind of projection has been hinted at many times by Miyamotu, Iwata, Reggie and plenty of people online claiming to be insiders. Is such technology affordable at a reasonable price though, and how would it work? I really can't see it but then again we're waiting on this final secret that will apparently surprise us all and it was said that it was something hidden under the flap. God knows what it is, all we can do is wait till E3. The one thing that makes me highly doubt it is the Red Steel screens we were shown which just looked like standard screenshots. Who knows, all I know is I'm getting very excited about E3 - Regardless of what happens, I just want to know :yay:
  8. E3 2006 Hype/Discussion

Its been rumoured since last E3 - Nintendo said that they were currently considering a next generation game boy as they considered the DS a third pillar. To be honest, with the runaway success of the DS I think they may have reconsidered it but I wouldn't rule out a direct competitor to the PSP being unveiled at E3.
  9. Does this prove Wii's a fake?

Its most likely that the date is when the registration of that page expires, which would imply that the site will be moved to wii.nintendo.com and the revolution sub-domain will cease to exist. We might see a proper site rather than just a video though at the wii domain which would be ace
  10. Paper Mario 2: TTYD advice

I loved the original but when I got this at launch I simply couldn't get into it, I was going through a bad patch with games and halfway through Hooktails castle I got bored and didn't go back. Rebought it after christmas though and my god its great, I don't think its quite as good as the original but its still a really cool game, one of the best on the cube for certain
  11. The other night I played House of the Dead 4 in an arcade, if you haven't played it then you may not know that to reload your gun you shake it up and down as opposed to pressing a button. Assuming the motion sensor in the nunchuck is true and its certainly looki that way then I think its quite likely it could be used in such a way which'd be pretty damn cool
  12. I'd really like to see them go back to Raven Blade, that was looking really promising before it cancelled. Nintendo don't tend to cancel something though unless it really should be cancelled, my bets on Kid Icarus.
  13. Sadness

This game looks really really promising, I love the concept behind it. My only concern is that as it's Nibris' first game then it may not be particularly well made due to their lack of experience, hopefully that won't be the case though
  14. I'm thinking a PGR competitor using real cars and licenses and controlled by turning the FHC on the side - If they do that it could be a reall system seller.
  15. I think the Revo will still look outstaning on HDTV's but unlike 360 (and possibly PS3) it'll also look superb on a normal TV. Good news
  16. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

To be honest I'm perfectly happy if the name remains 'Wii' its really growing on me and I'm really hyped about playing it
  17. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

Thats taken from Kotaku, I have no idea of their reliability and frankly it sounds far too risky for Nintendo to attempt it - Seems more likely it'd just be a thoughtless oversight on their part or quite simply a case of the trademark taking a few days to register, but y'neve know. Thoughts? (Apologies if this has already been posted)
  18. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

I'm guessing its the logo we've seen, it has the same minimalistic, techy sort of look Nintendo seem to be going for. Very apple-esque. Smeg Fridges. Siemens Mobiles. Virgin Trains. All succesful despite having strange connotations in their names, I see no reason why Wii will be any different if marketed correctly.
  19. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

Somebody made a damn good point over at the Gamesradar forums. Having a name with dodgy connotations never hurt Siemens. They're right y'know.
  20. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

It is starting to grow on me...a bit. It will take time, I didn't like DS at first either after all. Just got a newsletter from game...
  21. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

I'm only really concerned about it affecting the console at retail because I care about the company, brand loyalty and all that. Personally though I'm not fond of the name I love the concept and I love Nintendo games, if it delivers on those fronts I'll be happy regardless of the name.
  22. Difference is none of the names she's mentioned - google, iPod etc. sounded like a bodily function (or any I've ever heard of at least). I love Nintendo and I will be buying their new console but I think they've already killed it at retail in any english speaking country with that name although I'd love to be proved wrong.
  23. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

As somebody said on another forum, being the laughing stock of the country worked for Jade Goody. Tis a good point
  24. What The Hell?? Nintendo Wii!!??

Imagine what this means for various Nintendo websites, forget Revolution-Europe becoming "wii-europe" how about "Planet Wii" Apparently the launch line up will include Resident Wiivil and Wave Race: Golden Shower
