  1. Zelda Wii Underway!!

So it'd work a bit like MGS4 is supposed to but with Zelda? You're in a world where there's a big war going on, your actions can influence it and you can take part in it but ultimately you have your own mission to go about at the same time. I like that idea, the idea of a fairly free roaming world (Oblivion style) but with Zelda tied into it is also appealing and I'd love to see either of those things happen because it needs a bit of a shake-up. I suppose both could work together really with the free roaming being interrupted by set pieces at various points. What I'd really like to see is a change to the go to dungeon, get new item, complete dungeon, get some artefact or other. I'm not saying do away with dungeons completely but make them flow more and don't have everything in dungeons.
  2. Really awesome game - The Xbox version was such a disappointment, the multiplayer was the best aspect of the original yet they totally destroyed it in the multiplayer-centric remake. Never quite figured that one out.
  3. 1 day to go!

Its almost certain I'll be working on launch day so it'll basically be a case of turn up at Game for opening - Buy Wii and bits and pieces (And go running around elswhere to track other bits down if Game are out - I'm talking my extra nunchuk that I didn't pre-order) and then arrive home. Set the Wii up and then probably a case of get ready for work and set off I won't get a chance to play it until either 10:00 that night or the following day Friday's a slow day too always so I just know it'll drag.
  4. Demo kiosks???

I saw the Wii in Virgin Manchester, no-one was playing it and to be honest I just assumed that it was just on display although seeing the Wii first hand for the first time was cool, its so small and funky looking. I don't want to play it until the day I get it anyway, I spent a good amount of time playing on a cube in toys'r'us about a month before launch and Luigi's Mansion/Rogue Leader didn't feel nearly as fresh on day one as a consequence
  5. The Reviews Thread

Voice acting in games is rarely good and whenever it is I don't think adding it to an established series with established characters is a good idea. If Nintendo want to create a new franchise and use voice acting in that then that would be fantastic. It worked in Final Fantasy because despite being an established series, the characters were new in each game. I think having full voice acting added to established characters is enough to put some people off, look at FF7: Advent Children - the vast majority of FF7 fans who picked that up refused to play it in English, opting for Japanese with English subtitles instead. The reason for that is simple, when you play a game without vocals you tend to develop your own interpretation of how the characters speak. People who played the original FF7 didn't want to hear english voices added to spoilt the illusion, it works in much the same way as Mario Sunshine and the recent Sonic games (Both of which had dreadful voice acting) were absolutely cringeworthy because no-one imagined the characters speaking in general, especailly not sounding as awful as Peach/Bowser did in Mario Sunshine. I wouldn't like to hear any traditional Zelda character such as Zelda, Gannondorf or Link be fully voiced and frankly voicing everyone else but not them would just seem odd. Besides, a lot of scripting in games is quite poor and even games with the best voicea cting can have a few cringeworthy lines. I'm happy with the random noises and I'm happy to read the text, its never spoilt a game for me in any way before. Gamespot have generally talked rubbish just to be controversial and whilst they write some good articles the vast majority of their reviews are pretty crap. I would take Edges scores with a pinch of salt as well - Lets not forget Smash Bros has always had poor scores in Edge yet Melee is the favourite game of most Gamecube owners. IGN tend to be the most accurate in my eyes, can't say I've ever hugely disagreed with a mark they've given.
  6. 1 x Wii (W/ Wii Sports) 1 x Wii Play (W/ extra remote) 1 x Zelda: TP 1 x Nunchuk That'll keep me sorted for a good while, enough for multiplayer and with two simple, shallow titles that'll keep me and friends amused and the one big title for me to sink my teeth in. I'd like more, could afford more but there's not a chance I'll have time to play them I'll struggle to find time to play all of those as much as I'd like. (I actually had to return one game the other week, though to be fair it was Oblivion - purely because I'm too busy at work )
  7. Super Monkey Ball Adventure!!

So did anybody buy this? I picked it up today cos Game had it for £19.99 and I thought it was worth a try at that price. So far its ok but not brilliant, the way Monkey Ball controls doesn't really suit a platform environment that well and the puzzle levels feel realy tacked on and poor. Its ok though I reckon, might improve - What does everyone else reckon?
  8. Exactly... Excitetruck in January, Wario Ware in February, Metroid Prime 3 in March and then the likes of Mario Strikers, DK: Bongo Blast, Paper Mario 2 Project Hammer, Mario Galaxy, Big Brain Academy, BWii and of course, Smash Bros to follow across the course of the year. A constant stream of top quality Nintendo first party games - Twilight Princess is supposedly a long game that will most likely last us until the next first party release and the likes of Wii Play/Sports will keep us occupied inbetween. Not to mention that some of the third party launch window games look excellent. Hopefully we won't go short of quality titles at any time in the Wii's lifespan.
  9. PAL stock allocations announced today?

Assuming the second one of those two scans (from the leaflet issued to store managers) is correct then I'd say it suggests Wario Ware Smooth Moves will be out by Christmas, wouldn't you? Or maybe just a demo with the system.
  10. What will you play first?

For some reason I always seem to do my best to drag things out as far as possible so before I get stuck into Zelda (Which I'm desperate to play) I'll probably play around with the Wii Channels and have a good play on Wii Sports/Play so when I do turn Zelda on I'll be all the more excited about playing it Unfortunately the likelihood is that I probably won't have much of a choice anyway - I'll pick my Wii up in the morning at 9, get back and set the system up and only have time for a few quick games of Wii Play/Sports before I have to set off for work
  11. It would have been fun? Have you actually played it? It seems to me that you're missing the entire point of the game. Wii Sports is supposed to be a selection of simple sports games that anybody can control and enjoy - Whilst we may find using the wiimote and the analogue stick to play tennis quite easy you can guarantee most people won't. I have no doubt that full in depth simulations with full controls will come - I expect within a year we'll see Tiger Woods, Virtua Tennis, Mario Tennis, Fight Night amongst others which offer the depth you seem to want and those will be full price games. Wii Sports isn't that kind of game though and its never been pitched as that yet I'm sure it will be the kind of game that is highly entertaining in short doses and will be a great party game and thats precisely what its meant to be.
  12. Wii Love Mario Strikers?

The Gamecube one is a brilliant game, right up there with Smash Bros Melee and Monkey Ball as one of the systems best multiplayer games and really addictive in single player as well. Hopefully this one will have online leagues and tournaments!
  13. [Wii] List of launch window games

Hence them saying in brackets other dates. As the guy said, the launch games are the ones that he's put 'D1' in brackets after. Absolutely fantastic launch list, looks like the Wii will have more quality FPS and Racing games than the Gamecube had in its entire lifespan from day one.
  14. What are YOU getting at launch?

Right now I'm only definitley going to be picking up the following... A Wii (White) One Extra Controller and Nunchuk (Black) One Classic Controller (If not bundled with the system) Wii Sports I'll also definitley be picking up 'Wario Ware: Smooth Moves' if its available at launch. Other than that, it'll really depend on word of mouth and reviews what happens. I really like the look of Red Steel but given the less than positive response at E3 I want to see how the final thing turns out before I decide. I'm also slightly concerned about Twilight Princess as I'm worried the Wii controls might not be up to much (Moreso after reading NGamers preview) so I want to wait and see what happens on that front before I make any decisions about which version to buy, hopefully I'll know before launch because I want to get TP the day it comes out. Thats if the GC version even sees a European release of course.
  15. Your GameCube collections

    1. Animal Crossing 2. Batallion Wars 3. Chibi Robo 4. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat 5. Eternal Darkness: Sanitys Requiem 6. F-Zero GX 7. Killer 7 8. Luigi's Mansion 9. Mario Kart: Double Dash 10. Mario Power Tennis 11. Mario Smash Football 12. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes 13. Metroid Prime 14. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes 15. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door 16. Pikmin 17. Pikmin 2 18. Resident Evil Zero 19. Resident Evil 20. Skies of Arcadia: Legends 21. Sonic Mega Collection 22. Soul Calibur II 23. Starfox Adventures 24. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 - Rogue Leader 25. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3 - Rebel Strike 26. Super Mario Sunshine 27. Super Monkey Ball 28. Super Monkey Ball 2 29. Super Smash Bros Melee 30. The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition 31. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 32. Wario World 33. Wario Ware: Mega Party Games Thats likely to be it really, I've given most other big titles on the system a go but none have really been keepers for me, there's just a few more I'm going to consider picking up before I stop getting Gamecube games and those are. 1. Donkey Kong: Bongo Blast - If it gets released here and turns out to be good, also will depend on how much money I have and what other games are available at the time. I might get it but to be fair I probably won't unless it turns out to be the best Nintendo racer since Mario Kart 64. 2. Donkey Konga 1/2 - Neither have much/any appeal to me as single player games, however purely for multiplayer (My Cube is very much a party console) I have considered picking them up. If DK:BB turns out to be good then I will have to buy some more Bongos and as such I may as well pick up Donkey Konga 1 and 2 as well 3. Kirby Platformer - If this is still in the works for Gamecube, gets released here and is anything like the quality of the Dreamland games then I'll be getting it. I think all/most are doubtful. 3. Mario Baseball - I've heard loads of good things and it does look good but I'm not a huge Baseball fan (I love Football/Tennis hence buying into those sports series') and with Wii Sports coming out that'll probably satisfy any cravings I have for a Baseball game so its highly unlikely I'll pick it up unless I see it on the cheap. 4. Mario Golf - Same as above really substituting Baseball for Golf. 5. Super Paper Mario - This looks brilliant, as long as it comes out on the Gamecube (I wouldn't be surprised if it gets moved over to the Wii, at least in Europe) then I'll be getting it. 6. The Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords - I want it partly for completist reasons (I own every other Zelda in at least one form) and partly because it looks a lot of fun. I doubt I'll get as much multiplayer fun out of it asit deserves though because I only have 2 GBA's so I don't want to pay too much for it. I'll get it at the right price. 7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - I'm getting a Wii but I'm slightly concerned that the controls might be a bit gimmicky - Hopefully I can read reviews of both a week or so in advance of launch to get an idea. If the games are both the same and the Wiimote controls don't add anything then I'll probably pick up the Cube version, if not I'll get the Wii version.
  16. Godfather Wii Discussion

Forget the possibilities of the Wii-mote and just think of it as a second analogue stick - That, along with the nunchuk and the buttons between the two basically gives you a normal pad so its not too hard to imagine how things could be moved over
  17. Godfather Wii Discussion

Why not? As long as the port is handled well then its just as suited as Resident Evil, Zelda etc. Its a third person action game with driving bits - Analogue stick to move, Wiimote to direct weapons and then either switch the wii-mote on the side or just use the analogue stick for the driving bits. I think it'd work fine although I'm not expecting anything amazing if its just an enhanced port of the Xbox game which is pretty average. Still, it being on the Wii is good news for Nintendo - Its one of the big name third party titles that appeals to an adult audience that the Gamecube missed out on, regardless of its quality its appearance on the Wii will be a good thing for Nintendo at least.
  18. First of all, I know there's an existing Wii Sports thread but its more based on what was announced at E3 and its buried several pages back. Furthermore I think due to the nature of this topic it would work better as a seperate thread. Onto the purpose of the topic, I was reading an article on IGN - http://wii.ign.com/articles/717/717268p1.html - and it got me thinking of other ideas for the franchise and its implications, in terms of what happens to the future of Nintendo's existing Sports franchises and how it will effect other sports titles coming to the system. I think that Sports titles in general appeal to the core gamers of teenagers/young adults. They want a proper, in depth game about their favourite Sport - However whilst those kind of gamers will still enjoy Wii Sports it also appeals to the new kind of audience Nintendo are going for. I think it will sell well but at the same time I don't think it will effect other sports titles on the Wii, some ideas may cross over but the games will have much more depth. Personally I would never buy a stand-alone basebball game, or a golf game come to that because I have no interest in simulations of the sports. However I find the idea of Wii Sports versions hugely appealing. At the same time whilst I will enjoy Wii Tennis it won't stop me buying a version of Virtua Tennis or Mario Tennis if either version show up on the system. What do you think? Would you buy Wii Sports and Spin-offs and nothing else or would you still buy individual sports titles so long as they were good? The other point of my topic is basically this, what other ideas do you think would work well in Wii Sports? This image popped up a few days ago online - http://images6.theimagehosting.com/324AM190606_power_addlow.jpg It was suggested as an idea for a Fight Night/Punchout update but I think that if the analogue stick were removed it could work perfectly as a Wii Sports title. Its simple and intuitive and would allow for the computer to control movement, punches would be controlled entirely with the Wii-Mote. It fits in perfectly with the idea of Wii Sports and much like the other titles suggested for it, it'd be good ground work for future Boxing Games. Another idea as well, Wii Shootout. Using the same wrist straps and controllers (They could be packed in) you strap the controls to each leg. You then shoot in a penalty shoot-out, again fairly simple gameplay and I think it'd work well as a Wii Sports title. Obviously in both cases the straps would have to be extremely secure. I also thought other less traditional sports such as Wii Javelin and Wii Archery could be added, again they'd all fit well into the concept of Wii Sports. I'd be interested to hear what ideas everyone else has as to how the Wii Sports series may develop?
  19. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

I'm sure it won't be Resi 5 - Capcom have already said in an interview that Resi 5 will be quite reliant on the HD abilities of 360/PS3, any Wii version would have to be quite toned and as such I think it would be quite far from what Capcom want to give us with RE5. I think whatever game we get will surely be built on the Resi 4 engine and be some sort of spin-off from the main plot. Given what Capcom have said I still stand by statements that a Resi 4: Extended Cut seems most probable, I'd prefer it to be a fresh game of course but this is just the impression I get, hopefully I'll be wrong. However, if it is a spin-off from the main plot rather than an addition to the numerical series (Like Code Veronica) then I don't think the Leon silouhette necessarily indicates that the game will feature Leon, its just to suggest that a Resi game is on the way. A continuation of Resi 4 that compliments Resi 5 would be ideal. I think if you want to get the full Resi experience this generation though then you're going to have to get a Wii and either a 360/PS3. Both systems can bring their own individual touch to make Resi games better so I'd like to see stories that compliment each other - A toned down graphically version of Resi 5 with tacked on controls on Wii would be good for nothing as would a less functional port of Resi Wii to 360/PS3.
  20. The thing is, a full on Tennis game for example with the Wii-Mote for the racket and the Nunchuk to move the character around could work fine. However, whilst I know that myself and my friends would have no difficulty with it I do know that my girlfriend and my family would find it incredibly confusing. I think Wii Sports is fantastic as a game for everyone to enjoy, the hardcore crowd will still need proper versions of the games to keep them happy (Ideally with Wii Sports ideas thrown in though) - I don't mind too much if Nintendo only make Wii Sports Tennis (Instead of that and Mario Tennis) as long as Sega bring us a proper version of Virtua Tennis. There's no reason though why they can't both be done due to the all-round simplicity of Wii Tennis (And any other Wii Sports game to come that)
  21. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

No it isn't, it plays exactly like Resident Evil 4 and is coupled with some well made cut-scenes which help to develop the story of Resident Evil 4 much further. Having played it the Gamecube version feels like an incomplete experience in comparison. Oh, and you're telling me that doesn't resemble an older, grapically superior version of this...
  22. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Based on what Capcom have said an enhanced version of Resident Evil 4 seems by far the most probable thing to happen. What Capcom have said so far is all we have to go on. By that logic the PS2 version is a remake of the Gamecube version, it would just be an upscaled port with extras and Wii controls, they're not remaking the main game so its not a remake. I'm not saying thats what I'd prefer, all I'm saying is that the facts are that Capcom want to make a Resident Evil game to test the waters for Resi on Wii before making any new entires to the main Resi series. Unless that view has changed then Resi 4+ seems like the most probable way for it to happen. Its nothing about not believing in Capcom, I seem to be one of the only people actually believing and listening to what they've said so far.
  23. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Jesus Christ can people not read? Capcom want to test the waters for the control scheme with a Resi game to launch early next year. That is far too early to create a brand new Resi game and the only Resi game that wouldn't look out of place on Wii is Resi 4, anything else (A remake of any other RE game for example) would require being remade from the ground-up so they may as well make a new title. Resi 4 would not be a remake, it would be an enhanced port tweaked for the Wii control scheme and with extras. This would lead onto an original Resi game a few years down the line. Nobodys saying they would prefer that to an original title but judging on the only official news we know so far its looking most probable.
  24. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

However Capcom have only made two facts clear about this Resi game... 1) It will launch early 2007 2) It will be more of an experiment to test the waters and see the Wii's suitability for Resi games (Much like Deadly Silence was for the DS - but hopefully a lot better) Resi 4 tightened up graphically and upgraded to 480p will look as good as anything on the Wii and as good as some early 360 games, doing that will take little effort on Capcoms part. It is already an excellent game and with enough extras it would be a worthwhile purchase for anyone with the Cube Version, it also has to be remembered that people who buy the Wii may not necessarily have a GC and may be interested in Resi 4. Those who are big fans of the game (And there are a lot) would probably get shut of their Gamecube edition for an ultimate edition so it would sell. It also means that Resi can be made to fit the Wii perfectly and then a future exclusive can be made just right. Personally, I'd prefer a new version and I'm sure most people would but a special edition of 4 would hardly be bad news and the only official news from Capcom is that that is what this game will be. Take into account how Capcom like to release enhancement and ports of old games (Particularly the Resi series) and it would make sense. This, followed up by an original title a few years down the line would suit me just fine.
  25. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Erm, actually we would like a new game - Resi 5 or a reinvention of Resi would be fantastic. However, Capcom have already said that they want to release a game to test that Resi will work on Wii before making any decision regarding Resi 5. An enhanced version of Resi 4 is an opportunity for them to test their ideas out on a game that is already developed and can consequently be tweaked and released at no great cost to them, it then ensures that any future Resi games on the Wii will be just perfect. It would also give GC owners the opportunity to play the Ada missions from the PS2 version which add a lot to the story and overall experience, as well as hopefully some other extras. Oh, and those of you with ONM - Compare the silhouette to this image... Its quite clearly the same picture of Leon
