  1. MGAc!d director / Japanese Analysts

Why not? First party games are said to have been in development for around a year, third party around 7/8 months and if it is so easy to develop for there's no reason why complete and polished games couldn't be released in June. Revo shown in finished form, with all Japanese launch titles shown at E3 - Launches in Japan/US in June/July and then in Europe in September, certainly fits in with the (within 3 months worldwide) Assuming games are ready then I see no reason why it couldn't launch in June, and if by then developers have had around a year to make games then it could be done - I wouldn't count on it but I wouldn't rule it out either.
  2. What if the worst happens?

Nintendo's consoles are more profitable than Sony or Microsofts, they may sell less but per individual console they make more money as the Gamecube is cheaper to produce - It may not have sold as well as Xbox/PS2 but the gamecube was still a profitable, and reasonably succesful console - Nintendo can afford the revolution to be a flop of Virtual Boy proportions without it forcing them to do a Sega, but it might be advisable - I certainly think if it happened Nintendo should go software only, and build a reputation on machines where the casual gamers are - Ratchet and Clank/Crash Bandicoot/Kameo/Jak and Daxter all did well, sonic has done well multiplatform and Mario/Zelda would do as well. Then after that return to the console market - I don't think the revolution will be a flop though, as long as they market it right it could be everyones second system.
  3. There was actually a very basic version of what you talk about released for the PC around 1999/2000 if anyone remembers it - 3D glasses that made everything on the screen look bigger and actually stand out like they are being projected from the monitor - but you could still see everything else around you. I can imagine that by now the technology could be greatly improved and be far cheaper. It is quite probable. My only concern is the price, if they are quite costly then it will price a lot of people out and nobody is going to want to buy 3 more wands and 3 more visors for playing multiplayer, that is unless of course Nintendo do a bundle with visor, wand and analogue stick attachment for something like £40 - But I can imagine they'd make quite a big loss on that, although for all we know the wand may be very cheap to produce. Also would one be included as standard with the system, or would it just be an optional extra? Then surely if it was an optional extra it would mean that people miss out on one of the revs best features. However all the signs point to it and the technology exists, although whether i can be done for a reasonable price remains to be seen - I think the pc glasses came in at around £40 a pair though 5 years or go so it might be possible. Its certainly far more likely than any other suggestions.
  4. I know its a Osaka's Blog but....

Hmm, its an improvement on the other fakes that have been shown, but it looks to me like it was based on the one in the survery (The red, similar kind of buttons) and then simply has a more stylish background. I really hope its not like that, the 360 has a brilliant interface. Its stylish and looks like an entertainment device, that looks like the interface for one of those Fisher Price plug-in and play TV consoles. If Nintendo want to appeal to everyone they need every aspect to be spot on - The console itself is very stylish and that interface just wouldn't match it.
  5. Satoru Iwata talks Revolution again

I think we'll see it in PAL territories in time for Christmas, along with a DS redesign. It'll go into direct competition with the PS3 that way and as it is released at christmas it stands a good chance of being that hot christmas toy, there's always less hype about things released in spring or autumn, regardless of what they are. September-December worldwide is what I'm anticipating.
  6. I think the best way for them to test the Revolutions controller would be to create a brand new IP, and either a spin-off or re-make of a Resident Evil game, using the new controller. In the new IP they could experiment and in the remake or spin-off they could apply it directly to Resi. Resident Evil 2 remake with Resi 4+ graphics and using the revolution controller? That'd suit me
  7. For those who didn't think there was any truth about it - IGN have reported on the matter here
  8. I don't think at this time it'd be cost effective for a visor to be the standard for playing games, a good quality one at least. Maybe 10 years or more down the line, but not just yet. I'm sure there's more to revolution than we've been tol thus far, but I just can't see it being a visor.
  9. My one concern with the virtual console thing is what happens when we buy them? Do they save themselves to a memory card so we can load them from that whenever, or will we always have to go to that part of the wi-fi and load the game from there (With just a save being recorded to a memory card each time) the second seems most probable though I'm sure Nintendo will tell us soon enough, I really think a hard-drive should have been included as an optional extra though - It would make things so much easier. That list looks about right, although there are a few noteable exceptions - To be honest though I'm more bothered about the games I haven't had the chance to play - Super Mario RPG, Sin and Punishment, Earthbound and Yoshi's story. I'm sure thats not the final list though, nintendo wouldn't leave off Mario Kart 64 and I expect other companies (Capcom, Square, Sega etc.) to add games to that list when they decide what they want put on.
  10. 'Nintendo RS Menu Beta'

The menu's made by Defect DS are very nice, smooth and stylish yet at the same time quite simple. Just like the revolution itself. If the official Nintendo one looks anything like that I'll be very pleased, the gamecube's was probably the nicest of the last generation. The Xbox one was a bit too green whils the playstation one was very dull. Something more along the lines of the 360/PSP would be superb.
  11. Keep the 'Nintendo Revolution' codename.

Unless I'm much mistake, wasn't DS just a code-name until about a month before the system launched? I wouldn't rule out revolution staying the full name, I'm sure the owners of revo-europe are hoping it will anyway To be honest, I think Revo rolls off the tongue quite well - but I think calling it a revolution is a bit of a risky, if the console struggles and receives a bunch of ports that make no use of the "revolutionary" features of the system then Nintendo look like fools. At the same time N5 just doesn't roll of the tongue as well as 360, or PS3. "I'm playing my N5..." just doesn't sound right. Whatever they ultimately call it, I'm sure Nintendo will get it right.
  12. Revolution's image not good in the press!!

Nintendo have an image as a manufacturer of childrens toys, and not as a serious competitor in the video game market. In the current market, people want what is "cool", that is, what the media tells them is "cool". Cool is the playstation, cool is the iPod, cool is Grand Theft Auto. Cool is sadly not Nintendo. Its clear that with a bit of work its possible to change your image. Five years ago Microsoft were not a cool company, and the idea of having a microsoft games console was laughable. The Xbox had an uphill struggle trying to establish itself. People seem to forget given its recent succes, but at first the Xbox didn't do too great. It was too pricey they said, and the only good game was Halo, which would be coming out for PC anyway! But Microsoft worked at it, pouring money into advertising and persistently getting top quality titles, the Xbox established the groundwork and Xbox360 has been an instant hit (apart from in Japan) Nintendo can change the kiddy image, either by changing the revolution and releasing a run of the mill system, with better graphics than the 360 and PS3 and a prettier box. Did I mention, replacing Mario and Zelda with a bunch of generic FPS and Racing games. Alternatively they can put the revolution out there and market it as something different, something thats a must have. The DS has become a must-have for portable gamers, whilst the PSP is impressive technically it does nothing that hasn't been seen before. Yet people pick up the ds for the first time and are in awe, and its not just gamers - Its women, the elderly, people who (and I'm generalising here) usually see gaming as a waste of time. Yet they see someone playing Nintendogs and it gets their attention, suddenly there's a new demographic just waiting. When you take it into their homes as something that sits next to their dvd player, under their tv then suddenly you have an even wider market. The revolution could become that rare thing, a console that suits everyone - that isn't exclusive to the spotty geek, or the tech guy with the bulging wallet. It will need to be marketed right, and it will need support from the right people - but the model nintendo are using with the console is spot on, a good price point, a stylish design and a simplistic controller that appeals to the hardcore gamer, and the novice. If they do it right, Nintendo can change their image with the press and as a consequence, the average joe. That part however is down to them.
