I can't imagine going on holiday alone though. I went to a couple of conferences in my youth, and it was nice exploring new places, but I did get very lonely and wished I could share my experience with someone else.

I know it's not quite the same but I tended to message friends and chat to people there if it was excursions or whatever.

Compared to my family trip to Disneyland in November it was much much calmer and could do things on my own time.

Last movie i want to see alone was IT before my cinema closed down. Was a really fun time. Got an isle seat and they had these really big table kind of things next to you so i didn't have to put food in my lap or on the floor.

I went to the cinema once and I was the only one in there and it was one of those with sofas so I took off my shoes and curled up on one of those. Best cinema experience ever.

I'd argue most who are familiar with the site would still know what gaming website was being talking about in context if someone said Game-facks, regardless of how much they dislike it being said that way. emoji14.png

I guess like people who say "data" with a 'h' in there. You know what they're saying but you judge them all the same. Or at least I do. The weirdos.

Yeah, I always thought it was common knowledge that it was pronounced "Game Facks", and that was generally accepted/understood by the people on there going ages back. The same way people say "FOMO" as a single word rather than "eff oh emm oh".

It is somewhat amusing though to see people think they're being astute by essentially saying "hey, the FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions, don't you know?!"

    You don't say...

I think it's just weird because I don't hear people saying FAQ as a word, but maybe I just associate myself with the right people.

The general movie thread brought up the conversation of going to the cinema alone and then moved onto other things like holidays so thought it would make a good topic by itself.

I often go to the cinema alone and quite enjoy using it as a place to relax and switch off unlike at home. I have a friend who may come but aligning availablity is what it is.

Likewise I'll often go out to eat alone. Sometimes it's "I can't be bothered to cook" but I often travel alone so it's a necessity. I tend to just listen to a podcast while doing so.

And when it comes to travelling, well let's just say a year ago today I arrived in Sydney for the first day of nearly 5 months of travelling alone. In fact, going anywhere with someone else now just doesn't work for me. Too much hassle.

Travelling alone forces me to get out of my shell a bit more and try and chat to strangers. Sometimes in another language which is a challenge in itself.

I used to do this all the time before the pandemic. I got sick of trying to organise trips to the cinema with friends and decided to just start going straight after work if I fancied it. Loved it. Got to see what I wanted, when I wanted and without the hassle of organising things or looking for someplace to eat before or after the movie (just went straight home).

This is also why I travel alone and to a lesser extent eat alone (I enjoy going out for dinner with a friend, but if I want dinner I'll just go do it if I can't find anyone).

My chronic single nature and lack of friends (in the same country at least) may also be a contributing factor.

Yeah, I can see all the benefits of that.

But to be fair, most of my friends don't like to watch movies in cinemas anyways, and I just recently met someone who does and we enjoy the same kind of movies. I like watching movies and talk about 'em with her :)

Poor Things, however, is not her style, so... :p

It is nice to have the post movie chat I'll give you that.

If I do, it'll be the first time I'll go to the cinema by myself.

This is wild to me given I went to the cinema by myself twice last week, yet alone the number of times I've gone in my life.

I knew it was going to be weird going in but nothing can quite prepare you for how weird. Sometimes leans into the worst excesses of art house cinema too much, but it's certainly unique and Emma Stone puts in one hell of a performance. Had no idea it would be so explicit either.

Second weekend in a row I've watched a film about grief and loss. Let's not get too Frasier about that.

But again, it's got good performances and really punches you in the emotions.

So the curiosity just got too much for me to handle and I resubscribed to Game Pass to check this out. :D Well, and Season 11 of Sea of Thieves has just arrived too. ;)

One game about pirates and one game made by pirates.

It's interesting because what we see as a rip off might actually be sufficiently different to pass. I'm reminded of whenever I go into ALDI, there's tonnes of stuff that is very blatantly meant to look like known brand products, yet clearly they've made products differently enough to avoid legal issues. I'm thinking things like this:

I tested Aldi's knock off versions of big brands - here's the seven surprising times they win | The Sun

Apparently my role in this thread is to focus on the unimportant things but Oreo isn't even the original. It's a copy of something called Hydrax or something as equally unappealing.

It does look like Palworld has been plagiarised to buggery, and i expect GameFreak (Nintendo?) will sue them and win, but I don't see how it matters that the art/work that was stolen was done by freelance artists. They have already been paid and have no say on what happens to the work after that - that's what freelance is all about. They are not affected by this.

Part of me hopes that if they were instructed to just plagiarise someone will blow the whistle about it.

I'm more surprised they haven't included a Mickey Mouse 'mon, seeing as the character copyright ended at the start of the year.

Why not go all the way? Let me play this as dual-wielding Mickey!

Speaking of, I hope we get an update on MOUSE soon...

Not to be that guy but the character of Mickie is still copyright protected. The short Steamboat Willie is in public domain and you can use that version of Mickie in relation to that public domain story.

No gloves, normal size shoes (at least for a cartoon mouse) and the eyes are different. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if the hat has to be included.

Just a warning if you were planning to make anything 😋

But if you want to see Disney characters with guns check out their World War II propaganda output.

(And my phone wouldn't let me delete that Pokémon video, obviously it's a fan of Mewtwo).

As for this game it looks like American teen edgelord nonsense. The kind of thing I imagine Elon Musk financing after being refused entry into the Pokémon café because he was drunk.

Sitting on a laptop at the moment trying to remember the window shortcut for emoticons so I could test that  (haven't found it yet so I had to use the laughing emoji that doesn't quite fit the situation :p )

And to clarify for others: emoticons are the ones you see in the reply box between quote and spoiler and are from about 1996. Reactions are responses to posts and are custom to N-E designed by @RedShell hence why there's a specific one in there...

Wouldn't get rid of either, but could potentially add some more modern emoticons alongside the old ones.

I feel like this may have been asked before but not sure so I'll ask now. Is there any chance of updating our emoticons? Just feels like our style is very old at this point and most places will have the standard these days that will match whatever you type from your phone or keyboard.

Yes we can. But you can also just use your phones keyboard which I think is why we've not bothered 🤷‍♂️
