I can't really explain how important Double Dragon was to my childhood. I first found it in 1987, at a sports centre, and became obsessed with it thereafter. Whether I was at a holiday camp or a seaside arcade, I tried to find this machine and slot my (old-sized) 10p pieces into it. It was always my ambition to own the real arcade game at home, and now I do. Last night I plugged in my headphones, loaded up Double Dragon and spent half an hour of retro bliss. This isn't just nostalgia, it's time travel! Suffice to say, Abobo is still a badass, the moving walls are still annoying and Marian's dress still doesn't cover her pants! Now bring on Bad Dudes vs. Dragonninja!

Damn you @Sméagol! Just finished the game. Everyone was right, it certainly does go places! Glad I hadn't been spoiled on anything before I went into it.

People keep saying expensive card board and I don't think people realise how expensive card board is these days! when I moved house my missus bought £50 of boxes from a company and for £50 I thought we were robbed! didn't get many and they were small.

What do you mean Kellam's not in the game? Are you blind!? He's right there! He's even in that gif you posted!

Right, I need to get a few things out of the way first. I'm gonna address a suggestion made by @DazzeL I would like to point out that it really doesn't matter if you can't make a night, as long as you turn up for half of them, your score will count in the final results. The total score is determined by your average score. Total points have no effect on your placing. However, I'm nothing, if not open. If you would like me to split the year up into shorter mini leagues (I'm thinking 3 leagues of 4 months), let me know. If you want the league to be one long league, tell me. Let's get some voting going! I'd also like to confirm if @BowserBasher is reprising his role as regular host. With that out of the way... First League Night: 25th January 8pm We'll ease into the year with a good old fashioned end of month Player's Choice night. Don't wanna dive straight into the crazy just yet. Sign up now!

Bear in mind that it’s different on the TV (since it outputs at 1080p), so unless you change the Switch’s TV output to 720p (which I’m guessing that you don’t want to do), there should be a small border with an integer upscale of 240p content (it’s actually gonna be 960p - like with NES/SNES games on Wii U). In handheld mode though, yes, it should be full screen since 720 is a perfect 3x multiple of 240. The horizontal scale is a bit tricky though because it should be displayed as a 4:3 image, even though the game never actually renders in the correct aspect ratio; so you need to stretch it to get the proper 4:3 aspect ratio.

+1 for Double Dragon childhood memories. Picked up Riptide GP. Definitely worth £5 As a decent racer with decent water physics. Just wish their was a time trial mode.

WOG doesn't actually use it (It's gyro only, like BOTW and Skyward Sword - same with Tomorrow Corp's other two games). The only games that use it so far, outside of Labo, are 1,2,Switch and Resident Evil Revelations 1&2 (for the reloading gesture).

I finished Story Mode just recently. Bought the Season Pass. Quick impressions. Performance Mode is buttery smooth! I don't think I could handle going back to 30 FPS Hyrule Warriors, so I hope this feature appears in the Switch version of that. The Fire Emblem Mechanics add a whole smorgasbord of cool nuances that make the game a lot more tactical than Hyrule. Ordering units around, exploiting the weapon triangle, the different movement speeds of classes. It all makes for a great gameplay experience that improves on Hyrule in almost every way. The remixes are awesome, total butt rock Fire Emblem is something I can't help but smile at. My favourite characters to play as so far are Ryoma and his silly, but fluid Lightning Blade, Tiki and her totally nicked gimmick from Young Link and surprise bundle of awesome, Lissa, who is nothing short of psychotically hilarious. That move makes me smile every time! That said, the general quality of the other characters range from average to pretty pointless. Lianna, Hinoka, Caeda, Leo, Takumi and Lucina add absolutely nothing to the diversity going on and just feel like a waste of time, due to them having the exact same moveset as someone else. There's 3 Pegasus Knights, and they all play exactly the same. Meanwhile, other traditional Lance users are either locked behind DLC (Oboro and Azura, both foot soldiers, surprisingly not clones of each other) or just flat out don't exist (Not a single playable Knight in the game so far, Kellam got robbed) The first DLC pack looks to be quite solid, 3 History maps seem to be quite significant. Oboro is pretty decent and Azura is great, utilising watery attacks like Ruto in Hyrule. But she's not utterly garbage. Niles however, is a clone of Sakura and Takumi, which is disappointing. Although his dialogue shout-outs are great and full of silly double entendres! ("Don't worry, I'm right behind you" he said in a very suggestive tone)

The use of cardboard is another example of Nintendo's 'lateral thinking with cheaper technology' approach they've been pushing since the Game Boy. It's worked out pretty well for them in the past.

But it’s not just cardboard - there’s elastic bands and reflective tape too these are feats of engineering though. Not easy to design. Is that not valuable? I think £10-20 cheaper would be perfect, but people keep saying £70 for some cardboard?!? Which is just a tad hyperbolic. Also thonk its funny people saying bevause the switch is popular this is evidence they’re seeing this like the Wii now like this could’ve all been designed branded and developed in a couple of months 🤣 And clearly why the camera was put in there...

WOW! I'm truly stunned. As a printer I am seriously impressed in the make up of these, I have done some clever packaging jobs in my time but this is next level. My kids are probably too old to be interested and in truth it doesn't really appeal to me, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate how genius it is. I just love Nintendo for this crazy shit.

The second part of the excellent sci-fi game The Fall is coming out on February 13th (same day as Owlboy) and it looks like Night In The Woods is coming even sooner with the eShop listing it for January 18th. I think now is the right time for them to have another Nindie direct, I'm hoping we get one soon with a release date for Hollow Knight.

Looking forward to this starting up again in a couple of weeks. Have a theme suggestion for you @Glen-i, how about merging 2 of the most entertaining N-E MK themes? Wario and Bob-omb only with "Smart" Steering? Would be truly spectacular I reckon.

Sony sold over 5.9 million PS4s over the holidays (down from 6.2 million last year) and 20.2 million units from January 2nd through December 31st (a record for the platform in an annual year). The console now sits at over 73.6 million units sold worldwide. With the games they have coming later this year - heck, even just later this month - and next year too, 100 million seems a formality, so long as they don’t start talking about the PS5 too soon. I have to wonder if they could even pull it off this year, seeing as they have the line-up to potentially back up such a surge, though it admittedly seems unlikely (but not impossible), as the 26.4 million units they would need to sell this year to cross the 100 million unit threshold would be a record for any platform within an annual year. Elsewhere, software sales reached 645 million, with 243.9 million units being sold in 2017 alone. The PS Store recorded its largest ever monthly sales of content in December 2017, and the number of PS Plus subscribers crossed 31.5 million. PS4 console annual sales: Year — annual — holiday — cumulative 2013 — 4.2M — N/A — 4.2M 2014 — 14.3M — 4.2M — 18.5M 2015 — 17.4M — 5.7M — 35.9M 2016 — 17.5M — 6.2M — 53.4M 2017 — 20.2M — 5.9M — 73.6M
